Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, acts in the capacity of lead over a group of assigned technicians. Performs duties of a certified inpatient pharmacy technician.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates advanced expertise in the technician role and in departmental policies and procedures.
  • Consistently executes assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Serve as an expert for workflow processes.
  • Contribute to staff new hire training and ongoing technician education.
  • Exhibits effective problem-solving skills and escalates concerns to the pharmacy leadership team.
  • Competent in answering questions, retrieving information, redirecting staff and on the spot decision making.
  • Lead for triaging phone calls and responding to and trouble-shooting MAR messages.
  • Coordinates weekly scheduling assignments.
  • Provides departmental committee representation.
  • Performs all level I & II Technician Pharmacy Inpatient duties.

Standard Lead Level Responsibilities:

  • Distributes and monitors the flow of work for an assigned group of employees.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to employees within the assigned work area.
  • Assists supervisor in assuring that assigned employees are provided with appropriate resources, materials, and methods.
  • Provides recommendations to manager or supervisor for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel.
  • Relays work instruction from the supervisor.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Maintains respect for patient confidentiality.
  • Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
  • Ensure that all required licenses and certification are up to date and are current.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current license with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • Certified by one of the national governing bodies such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board PTCB, or the National Healthcareer Association ExCPT.
  • Maintains advanced pharmacy technician certification for IV compounding

Experience/Skills:
Required:

  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Position requires proficiency in math and, knowledge and ability to use a computer.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy, efficiency, and dependability.
  • Positive work ethic, motivated and professional demeanor to promote teamwork in the department.

Preferred:

  • 1-2 years of UMass Memorial pharmacy experience.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
