Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public.
Position Summary
The Research Specialist will contribute to several aspects of the Sheps Center's Medicaid research portfolio, including quantitative data analysis, policy evaluation, and translation of findings into stakeholder-facing materials. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working with large datasets.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Strong foundation in statistical methods, including use of software such as Stata, SAS, or R.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid policy.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Work experience in public health or a related field of study.
  • Experience working with Medicaid claims data or other large administrative health datasets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing policy briefs or reports.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on research tasks and timelines.
