About the Job

50% General Admin for Department

  • Distribute mail to mailboxes in mailroom and the Department Head
  • Support general service to common office equipment for building (make sure all
    printers have paper, toner, etc.)
  • Provide administrative support for financial transactions, including summarizing
    expenses for visitors and completing check request forms
  • Prepare flyers for seminar speakers
  • Support the department, including the graduate program coordinator, with events

30% Dish Room Attendant

  • Run dishwasher for research labs in the Microbiology Research Facility
  • Run autoclaves for research labs in the Microbiology Research Facility
  • Alert the Department Administrator when the equipment needs attention

20% Other projects as assigned

  • Work on other departmental projects as directed by the Department
    Administrators
  • Support laboratory move-ins and outs of the building as faculty retire and are
    hired into the department
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a student at the University of Minnesota
  • Customer service experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of general office operations (MS Office and Google products)
  • Flexibility and a fast learner
  • Attention to detail
  • Preference to students who would be available to work both summer 2025 and AY 25-26

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a community of scholars committed to discovering and disseminating knowledge about the microbial world. Our interests and expertise encompass some of the most exciting areas of contemporary microbiology and immunology, ranging from the physiology and development of microorganisms, the molecular pathogenesis of infections, and fundamental aspects of immunity.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $17-$19/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Student workers are eligible to participate in the Student Health Benefit Plan, if they maintain 6 or more eligible course credits within a given semester. The same applies for Undergraduate Students, Graduate Assistants, Residents, Fellows and Interns.
