About the Job

Position Summary:
The Research Professional 2 will perform structured research-related work assignments requiring knowledge and experience in the field of bacterial pathogenesis, while still acquiring knowledge and skills. The individual must build lab-specific knowledge of processes and technical protocols to manage daily functions of the research group. This position will involve solving a range of laboratory-based problems, including optimizing protocols, performing technical assays, and coordinating with collaborators. The Research Professional 2 will receive guidance and direction from the supervisor but should also work independently on tasks specific to their expertise.
Essential Duties:
65% - Assist with experimental design, carry out experiments using established protocols (including working within BSL-2 laboratory for culture of bacterial organisms, assistance with animal infection studies, conducting tissue culture experiments, extraction of bacterial DNA, RNA and metabolite extracts, generation of site-directed mutant strains and libraries of mutant strains), and analyze data.
20% - Manage general tasks that improve the daily function of the laboratory that include preparation of stock solutions, autoclaving, keeping track of supplies, assisting with ordering, and assisting with onboarding of new researchers.
10% - Participate in writing and data presentation which will include preparing text for lab documents and manuscripts for publication, preparation of figures based on experimental data, presenting at lab meeting, and reading the scientific literature.
5% - Participate in professional development activities which will include training in new laboratory techniques as well as other professional and career development activities.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS in a Biomedical, Molecular or Cellular Biology Science, including coursework in genetics, cell biology, microbiology, bacteriology, and at least 2 years of related experience or combination of education and experience to equal at least 6 years.
* Experience working in a biosafety level 2 laboratory with Klebsiella pneumoniae.
* Experience working with mammalian models of infection, including tissue processing.
* Experience working with mammalian tissue culture models of innate immune cells.
* Experience with Microsoft tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience managing daily tasks of a laboratory.
* Experience presenting scientific data.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $25.00/hour - $30.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
