Elwyn seeks a Senior Corporate Accountant to prepare journal entries and reconciliations for the monthly general ledger close, conduct in-depth account analysis, and assist with monthly reporting. In addition to general accounting duties, this position will champion lease accounting under ASC 842 and lead the management and reporting of fixed assets to ensure accurate tracking, capitalization, depreciation, and regulatory compliance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the senior accountant is responsible for performing assigned tasks within the following functional areas:
Accounting:
- Prepare and record journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information, ensuring completion in accordance with our established monthly close calendar
- Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions, and resolving discrepancies
- Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliation to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
Lease Accounting:
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for ASC 842 lease accounting
- Maintain and update the schedule of property (and/or equipment) leases, ensuring accurate recognition of right-of-use assets and lease liabilities
- Prepare lease-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting
- Collaborate with Real Estate, Legal, and Operations teams to track new leases, modifications, renewals, and terminations
- Ensure lease payment schedules are accurately recorded and paid in coordination with Accounts Payable
- Prepare lease disclosures for financial statements and audits
Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintain and update the fixed asset schedule, including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and adjustments
- Track construction-in-progress projects and reclassify assets into service in a timely manner
- Calculate and record monthly depreciation expense and review asset useful lives and residual values for appropriateness
- Conduct periodic physical inventories of fixed assets and resolve discrepancies
- Reconcile the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the general ledger monthly
- Analyze company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to approved budgets and project authorizations
- Prepare detailed reports on fixed asset activity for internal use and external audits
Reporting & Analysis:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management reports and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives
- Assist with completion of the quarterly and annual regulatory filings
- Conduct analysis and summarize financial information, as requested by management
Audits & Examinations:
- Prepare audit schedules and assist the auditors in their inquiries within the scope of assigned functional responsibilities
Systems and Process Improvement:
- Assist with system testing and data validation during system upgrades
- Contribute to department and organization special projects, including, but not limited to, acquisition activities and system implementation or upgrades
- Document accounting policies, procedures and workflows for assigned areas of responsibility
Other:
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and/or participating in professional organizations
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Experience:
- Five (5) years of general accounting experience
- CPA or CPA candidate a plus
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle Cloud preferred)
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills and account reconciliation experience
- Demonstrated excellent time management and organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
- Demonstrated strong working knowledge of GAAP
- Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or problem areas and implement effective actions
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Must possess excellent collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
