THE JOB: The successful Sr Datacenter Engineer will be responsible for the oversight and advancement of our Datacenter facilities, Physical Compute, Operating Systems (Linux and Windows), Virtualization, Storage, and Backup environments, both on-premises and in the cloud. Reporting to the Director Datacenter Services, this position necessitates a strong combination of technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive technological enhancements and projects within the organization. The Sr. Datacenter Engineer ensures that our system hardware, operating systems, backup, storage, virtualization and related procedures adhere to the highest standards of reliability, performance, and security. THE DAY-TO-DAY:
Mentor the Datacenter Services team as a subject matter expert. Operate independently and within a team to drive tasks and achieve project milestones and deadlines while managing SLAs and ticket queues. Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of Datacenter Facilities infrastructure, ensuring the integrity and availability of all software, server resources, and key processes. Regularly apply OS patches, configure system software, and upgrade enterprise infrastructure or asset management applications. Perform hosting hardware/software security administration, account management, and technology reviews, adhering to gaming commission requirements and driving vulnerability management to align with security standards. Conduct performance and capacity monitoring, reporting, tuning, and optimization to ensure system efficiency. Maintain comprehensive documentation for operational, configuration, and procedural processes. Conduct hardware/software repair and recovery operations in the event of failures. Perform ongoing performance tuning and resource optimization, including CPU, memory, and disk partitioning. Provide Tier 3 & 4 support and address hardware or software failures while coordinating and communicating with impacted parties. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to ensure continuous support and maintain system performance and reliability. Collaborate with architects, datacenter leadership, vendor technical experts and technical stakeholders to ensure datacenter services meet all requirements and provide the highest quality for areas of focus. Monitor and manage virtualization systems including Cisco UCS, Citrix, Dell EMC, and VMware to ensure optimal hardware integrity and server resource availability. Leverage in-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies (Cisco UCS, Citrix, Dell EMC, VMware, VMware VCF) to complete complex projects successfully. Manage daily backup operations, confirming the successful backup of all necessary file systems and system data. Provide technical leadership for projects involving UNIX-like operating systems, predominantly Red Hat Linux, alongside Microsoft Windows, driving the team to achieve milestones and deliverables. Contribute to server build and configuration management solutions, streamlining the deployment and operation of server operating systems across the organization. Handle project responsibilities independently and within teams, ensuring project milestones are met on time and within SLAs. Assess and support vendor hardware and software solutions for UNIX-like and Windows systems.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Bachelor's degree in computer science and/or Information Systems. 5+ years of experience in a datacenter engineer role or related position, with a strong focus on facilities, physical compute, storage, and backup environments or experience in virtualization or a closely related field, with documented success in managing complex virtualization environments or experience in UNIX-like systems, mainly Red Hat Linux, and Microsoft Windows environments or prior relevant experience.
