Job Summary

Serves as the primary administrator of multiple residential buildings, each housing approximately 350-1000 FIU students. The main responsibilities include the coordination and direction of assigned communities, responsible for administrative oversight and supervision of professional and student staff of assigned area, and responsible for collaborative work group assignments and educational initiatives related to the department's curricular approach to educational outreach and programming. Includes crisis management and serving as a conduct officer. This position involves significant work outside of normal business hours.

  • Provides oversight and support in assigned residential areas. Oversees the coordination of assigned areas providing operational and administrative direction. Schedules and leads weekly professional staff and individual meetings, interprets and enforces University policies and procedures.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff consisting of Residential Experience Coordinators and Assistant Residential Experience Coordinators, establishing work priorities and workflow; developing goals relevant to the area, and providing general direction and leadership for goal accomplishment.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with internal units for room reassignments, room transfers, verification of room conditions, damage control systems, and verification of occupancy within assigned buildings.
  • Serves as the area liaison to internal units (e.g. Custodial, Maintenance, and Operations teams) ensuring all buildings are safe, secure, and well-maintained; conducts building and public facility inspections.
  • Assumes weekday, weekend, and holiday/vacation duty coverage of campus through serving in the professional staff on-call duty rotation to provide appropriate crisis response for all on campus residents.
  • Responsible for administrative functions related to employee management for staff. Advises and counsels staff regarding professional matters. Oversees employee performance evaluations and matters of staff discipline and recognition.
  • Responsible for a departmental initiative such as departmental programs, anchor welcome programs, a student staff training program, or a recruitment process. The initiative would be outlined based on the residential area placement.
  • Serves as the primary contact of all conflict, crisis, and conduct matters for their assigned buildings
  • Collaborates with Student Conduct and Academic Integrity on student conduct programs, policies and procedures for community. Ensure appropriate reporting processes and procedures are followed relating to Student Honor Code & Student Conduct Code violations.
  • Oversees the opening and closing of their respective buildings each year.
  • Oversees the area budget and ensures compliance with University procurement policies.
  • Develops effective and efficient methods to accomplish goals of community; communicates with professional colleagues; defines responsibility and delegates authority to employees; and encourage creativity and motivation among staff.
  • Designs and implements training workshops and staff development sessions for student and professional staff.
  • Ensures implementation of schedule of events for the academic year that aligns with curriculum, supports initiatives, and encourages holistic development of all students.
  • Provides general oversight for educational and community programs that promote academic excellence, student success, and contribute to a shared sense of community; assist with on-site event management as needed.
  • Identifies and facilitates the coordination of building preparation initiatives and project coordination.
  • Serves as a hearing officer for conduct cases utilizing a restorative action approach to help students understand their responsibilities as members of the hall and University community.
  • Provides safety education and monitors security operations of building. Conducts ongoing risk assessment of residential students.
  • Assists students in resolution of roommate conflicts and crisis management situations.
  • Responds to parents/legal guardians and other constituencies regarding student issues, concerns and questions.
  • Coordinates on-call staff schedule for area ensuring appropriate coverage for response.
  • Serves on departmental, Division of Student Affairs committees or program support as needed.
  • Serves as a University card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University credit card policies and procedures.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of office or related experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, preferably in student personnel, counseling, or administration or other related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience within the housing field.
  • Experience using the following systems: StarRez, Maxient, Microsoft Office, Qualtrics, CS Gold, When I Work
  • Proven ability to supervise or lead a high functioning team
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis management.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, developing learning outcomes, and the experiential learning process
