Position Summary: The College of Education and Technology at Eastern New Mexico University seeks a dynamic and collaborative tenure-track Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education (ECE). This position emphasizes the preparation of future dynamic early childhood professionals providing learning environments for children from birth through age 8. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to birth to third-grade teacher preparation, early childhood development, and evidence-based practices aligned with current research and NAEYC standards. A consistent on-campus presence is required as this is a residential faculty position.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate courses in early childhood education in both online and face-to-face formats (12-hour undergraduate teaching load per semester).
- Support practicum and field-based experiences through supervision and mentorship
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students pursuing ECE licensure or degrees.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and assessment aligned to state and national organization standards, including NAEYC professional standards
- Participate in activities supporting program-level accreditation and continuous improvement aligned with NAEYC Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs and other accreditations
- Engage in scholarly activities, including research, presentations, and publications (tenure-track)
- Provide university, college, and community service, including partnerships with early childhood programs and the Child Development Center
- Contribute to program development, including future graduate-level coursework in ECE
- Other duties as assigned by the department chair and college dean
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field (ABD will be considered with expected completion within one year of being employed)
- Minimum of three years of direct teaching experience with children from birth to age 8 in early intervention, preschool, or early elementary settings
- Demonstrated interest in preparing early childhood educators
- Willingness to use distance learning technologies and instructional design for online teaching
Preferred: - Bilingual (Spanish/English) or experience supporting multilingual learners
- Experience in curriculum design, assessment, or accreditation processes
- Familiarity with NAEYC Higher Education Accreditation standards, and prior involvement in accreditation preparation, reporting, or self-study processes
- Experience supervising student teachers or coordinating field placements
- Familiarity with New Mexico early learning standards and state certification requirements

- Ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds in inclusive ways
- Strong collaboration skills and capacity to engage in interdisciplinary work
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, trauma-informed care, family engagement, and NAEYC professional competencies
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- Standard workweek with occasional evenings or weekends required
- Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.(e.g., classroom materials, demonstration tools)
- Must maintain a physical presence on campus in Portales, NM as required by a residential appointment
