SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

The Merchant Services Representative I will be responsible for representing South State Bank Merchant Services in the development of new accounts and the expansion of existing accounts at South State Bank. With a focus on one of South State Bank's established geographic regions, she/he will directly interact with business owners to review their card payment acceptance needs and to align South State Bank Merchant Services solutions to meet those needs. She/he will partner with Branch Managers, Commercial Bankers, and Treasury Management Sales Officers as necessary to develop sales leads from existing bank customers and to identify opportunities for new prospects. The Merchant Services Representative I will provide professional, consultative sales of Merchant Services solutions and will significantly influence client decisions in selecting solutions that help businesses succeed in the collection of card payments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for new account development and/or the expansion of existing accounts within an established geographic bank territory.
  • Provide professional, consultative sales and applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.
  • Have working knowledge of South State Bank Merchant Services solutions and other business banking products.
  • Possess knowledge about PCI compliance and a basic understanding of eCommerce technologies and applications.
  • Maintain an active and accurate Merchant Services sales pipeline.
  • Review, and follow up of sales referrals received from bank partners.
  • Prepare customized Merchant Services proposals that are responsive to individual customer needs. Ensures new client onboarding process is followed and performs follow up calls with the newly boarded merchants to ensure they have received adequate setup and training for the solutions provided.
  • Attend business development meetings, Branch Meetings, and other regional sales and market meetings to share Merchant Services sales priorities, current campaigns, product training and knowledge sharing, and business development opportunities.
  • Partner with Treasury Management Sales Officers regularly to review Treasury Management and Merchant Services sales pipelines to identify partnership opportunities.
  • Self-Source new sales opportunities to identify new Merchant Services sales opportunities in established geographic regions.

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or related fields; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: At least two or more years in Merchant Services required and three or more years in Retail/Commercial Banking required; prior proven sales and marketing experience; and Experience with and advanced technical knowledge of payment solutions preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Possess excellent communication, sales and public relations skills,; ability to organize work and meet deadlines; ability to communicate effectively both in training and sales presentations; ability to serve clients enthusiastically and tactfully; ability to promote teamwork within the company; ability to handle confidential information; ability to adjust to rapidly changing environment; ability to function harmoniously with clients, management and peers when working under pressure.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

Required annual compliance training. Complete all the necessary Processing education. Attend one conference per year within the industry.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer. This can be done sitting or standing with use of the right desk.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered.
