Job Overview

The Accountant II - Capital Control administers capital projects in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards outlined in the Capital Administration Manual, Macy's Accounting Manual, Sage Manual, and Sales/Use Tax Manual. They use the Best Practices document as a guiding framework. The accountant partners with Project Owners, Accounting Services, Capital Planning, and third-party vendors to ensure policy compliance and complete, accurate documentation. They also close out projects in line with established standards and ensure asset lives are correctly assigned for depreciation purposes.

What You Will Do



  • Evaluate submitted capital budgets to ensure alignment with approved funding, company policies, and financial objectives. Identify discrepancies and recommend necessary adjustments.
  • Analyze contracts and purchase orders to ensure compliance with internal capital expenditure policies, appropriate approvals, and accurate financial coding.
  • Review, validate, and process vendor invoices related to capital projects in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring consistency with contractual terms and budget allocations.
  • Monitor project milestones and completion status to accurately transfer assets from CIP to the Fixed Asset register in accordance with accounting policy and depreciation standards.
  • Collaborate with project owners and stakeholders to confirm project completion, reconcile budgets, finalize documentation, and ensure proper asset categorization and financial closure.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed financial reports for capital projects, including budget-to-actual comparisons, forecasts, and variance analysis to support informed decision-making and compliance.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Capital Budgeting & Financial Analysis - Proficient in evaluating capital budgets, ensuring alignment with funding approvals, company policies, and financial objectives. Capable of identifying discrepancies and recommending corrective actions.

Contract & Purchase Order Compliance - Expertise in analyzing contracts and purchase orders to verify compliance with internal capital expenditure policies, ensuring proper approvals, and applying accurate financial coding.

Invoice Processing & Vendor Management - Skilled in reviewing, validating, and processing vendor invoices for capital projects, ensuring consistency with contractual terms, budget allocations, and timely payment processing.

Fixed Asset Management & CIP Transition - Experienced in monitoring project milestones and transferring assets from Construction-in-Progress (CIP) to the Fixed Asset register according to established policies, including proper asset categorization and depreciation assignment.

Project Close-Out & Documentation - Strong ability to collaborate with project stakeholders to confirm project completion, reconcile budgets, finalize necessary documentation, and ensure compliance with project close-out standards.

Financial Reporting & Variance Analysis - Proficient in preparing detailed financial reports for capital projects, including budget-to-actual comparisons, forecasts, and variance analysis to guide decision-making and maintain compliance.

Systems Proficiency & Integration Knowledge - Familiar with capital management systems such as Sage, Tango, E-Flow, with experience in integrating to Oracle, Hyland, and Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Attention to Detail & Accuracy - High attention to detail in ensuring the accuracy of financial data, project tracking, and compliance with regulatory and internal standards.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
