What You'll Do:

As a Sales Representative, you will optimize our Government accounts through daily face-to-face sales efforts. You will build and execute a business plan and strategy to maximize your impact in your territory. You will meet with customers and your extended selling team, consisting of product specialists and manufacturer representatives, to understand and drive individual value propositions for each customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an agreed-upon Operating Plan to expand customer sales in the assigned geography.
  • Provide Avantor solutions to Government accounts across various market segments.
  • Prospect and establish new customers by managing a sales pipeline and developing proposals that illustrate Avantor's value proposition.
  • Maintain access to the entire product line(s) that Avantor offers to customers, regardless of segment specialty.
  • Sell consultatively, detailing products, determining customer needs, and making recommendations.
  • Work with sales management to develop strategic territory business plans for sales growth and quota attainment.
  • Build and sustain relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Manage Avantor's vast product portfolio and execute company-defined sales and marketing strategies.
  • Represent and develop strong relationships with manufacturers.
  • Work directly with local manufacturer representatives to improve product knowledge, pricing, and account profitability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • College degree or equivalent/applicable experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a complex sales environment with a solution-based selling approach.
  • Proven track record of verifiable sales success with a consultative, strategic selling approach.
  • Business-to-business sales experience, preferably with distribution experience and a scientific background or laboratory/research environment experience.
  • Demonstrated capability to utilize best-in-class selling processes (e.g., SPIN, Challenger, Miller Heiman) and technology platforms including Salesforce.com and Qlikview.
  • Valid driver's license for essential functions of the role.
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned territory.
  • The ideal candidate will live within 45-minutes of the DC area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree with a concentration in a scientific field.
  • Sales experience within the Government sector.
  • Prior or current work in a laboratory or research environment.
