General Function

The Senior Credit Advisor is a key member of Fifth Third's Private Bank team of wealth management experts serving our most affluent clients with advice- based credit solutions that simplify financial complexity to achieve the client's goals. The Senior Credit Advisor provides complex credit expertise including but not limited to investment real estate loans, concentrated liquid secure loans, unsecured lending, liquid secured lending, aircraft finance and closely held stock loans. Achieves qualitative and quantitative goals focused on business development, client experience and credit excellence.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Establishes and implements targeted business plan and achieves annual target sales and revenue goal
  • Prospects for clients by sourcing and building own pipeline to deliver sophisticated and innovative solutions for financing or restructuring
  • Serves as region expert for complex credit; Earns referrals from clients and internal business partners and Center of Influence (COI)
  • Partners with the WMA, internal business partners, and Centers of Influence in the sales process to maximize new business opportunities and deepen client relationships.
  • Participates in the Life360 Process to identify cross-selling opportunities and to deliver appropriate products and services based on client goals.
  • Identifies referral opportunities across all service lines including IM&T, Brokerage, Insurance, Wealth Planning, and Equity Risk Management while collaborating with the Wealth Management Advisor.
    • Utilizes CRM to appropriately track prospects to close.

Client Experience

  • Demonstrates highly developed consulting, client contact and relationship management skills as reflected in achieving client experience goals
  • Collaborates with WMA and other specialists to ensure the Private Banking client experience is delivered.
  • Ensures service standards and metrics are met based on client banking needs and segmentation (e.g., ultra-affluent, inherited wealth, etc.).
  • Utilize consultative sells skills, Private Bank value proposition/principals and call reporting plans to enhance the client experience
    • Challenges and collaborates with the client to articulate and achieve their goals.

Credit Excellence

  • Utilizes lending and credit expertise to deliver sophisticated credit solutions best suited to meet the client objectives (e.g., alternative asset financing, unique assets, investment real estate loans, etc.).
  • Delivers complex credit solutions based on the value ladder and the Fifth Third Private Bank story following our Life360 Process.
  • Plays an integral role in the credit approval process; works collaboratively with credit partners; conducts thorough deal analysis, due diligence and credit presentations including credit memos/restructure memos
  • Proactively maintains asset quality of loan portfolio through managing loan renewals, monitoring financial statements, and maintaining current loan ratings.
  • Minimizes loan losses through proactive action on criticized assets and early identification of declining credit quality.

Supervisory: May act as a mentor/coach to less experienced Private Bankers and assist new Private Bank team members in onboarding.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • BS/BA is required. Business Administration, Finance, Economics is preferred; MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of successful sales/client service experience in credit.
  • Expert knowledge of and proven success with complex credit solutions and concepts including, but not limited to investment real estate, concentrated liquid secure loans, unsecured lending, liquid secured, aircraft finance and closely held stock loans
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of credit issues
  • Formalized commercial credit training or equivalent credit experience required
  • Strong analytical skills, including financial statement analysis and the ability to identify and analyze credit opportunities and risks
  • Ability to communicate sophisticated credit concepts to all levels of clients and prospects
  • Experienced operating in an environment that stresses both individual accountability and team-based performance.
  • Exhibits a sense of urgency and a continual drive to results coupled with an ability to partner effectively with management at all organizational levels.
  • Strong credit administration, underwriting, and loan structuring skills including knowledge of account maintenance, loan closing and compliance.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal negotiation, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Displays a professional presence within professional and community organizations.
  • Computer / Technical: Ability to use all Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • This position requires S.A.F.E. Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). The NMLS web site (mortgage.nationwidelicensingsystem.org) provides the MU4R questions and registration required for employment in this position

Compensation:

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as geographic location, specific position requirements and individual skills, experience, and education. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
