Position Overview

Position Summary
Eastern New Mexico University's Department of Theatre & Digital Filmmaking seeks a full-time, on-campus Instructor of Audio Technology to begin in August 2025. This non-tenure-track position focuses on teaching and technical support in audio for film and music production. This position requires teaching 9 credits per semester (75% of workload), offering courses in film sound and music audio production.
Courses are assigned by the department chair and may include: FDMA 1410 Audio Production I, FDMA 314 Production Sound, FDMA 320 Sound Design, FDMA 480 Music Video, MUSC 2310 Sound and Music Technology, MUSC 381 Sound Sequencing and Synthesis, MUSC 382 Audio Production for Music, and MUSC 2710H/470P Electronic Media Individual Lessons, or similar courses.
Additional responsibilities (25% of workload) include managing audio/video technology operations across campus facilities, such as the music recital hall, recording labs, and film sound lab. The role also includes mentoring students in theatre sound design and supervising student workers. This is a residential position with campus presence required.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 9 credits per semester, 75% of time, including in-person, on campus teaching.
  • Manage on-campus audio/video recording functions in music facilities and film facilities, 25% of time
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Continued professional development
  • Academic advising for undergraduate students
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees
  • Commitment to advancing the goals and mission of the department, including departmental assessment, strategic plans, curriculum development, student recruitment, and student retention
  • Supervise student employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair or dean
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • An earned master's degree in music technology, audio engineering, sound design, film, or a graduate degree in related field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and skill to manage audio and video technology in academic facilities
  • University teaching experience
  • Experience managing student workers
  • Professional experience in film and/or music production

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • May require occasional evening and weekend commitments.
