The Department of Sustainability Initiatives at Georgia State University is seeking to hire a Utility Worker II.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The Utility Worker II serves as lead worker in the collection of recyclable, wasted materials from designated campus collection sites for delivery for transfer. This position will advise and counsel recycling crews at Georgia State University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:



  • Acts as the Sustainability Initiatives liaison to recycling hauler and vendors.
  • Directs set up and participates in campus sustainability events such as Earth Week and Recyclemania.
  • Drives University vehicles or walks to collect recycling from assigned loading docks and buildings.
  • Drives University vehicles to drip off special materials to local recycling centers.
  • Leads crew in operating baler and forklift to bale and store cardboard.
  • Maintains BigBelly recycling units.
  • Maintains bin and supply inventory.
  • Manages recycling at special University events such as campus move out and athletic events.
  • Oversees packing, labeling, and shipping special recycling materials such as ink and toner cartridges and wood pallets.
  • Works in either a recycling team, campus setup team, moving team or parking lots team.
  • Train, direct, and monitor the work of others in the accomplishment of assigned duties.
  • Keep buildings, equipment and inventory clean, orderly, properly maintained, safe, and secure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • High school diploma or GED and one-year experience in moving, delivering and/or assembling equipment furniture and other large items.
  • A valid Georgia Driver's License is required.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Physical Requirements: Extended standing, walking, ability to bend, stoop, reach and climb ladders.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all temperature conditions.
  • Flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
