vdl.uada.edu Summary of Job Duties:* The Program Technician will perform animal diagnostic testing in the UADA Leland Tollett Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Responsibilities include performing serology, microbiology, and molecular diagnostic testing on veterinary client specimens and regulatory disease surveillance samples, as well as performing routine housekeeping, laboratory maintenance, and client services.
* The Program Technician will be required to participate in laboratory quality management and safety programs, ensuring compliance, documentation, review, and improvement of the processes and procedures to provide the highest level of client services and quality laboratory results. Specific duties include:
* Serology work including the preparation of blood samples and reagents for testing and performing testing utilizing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), hemagglutination-inhibition (HI), and serum agglutination methodologies.
* Microbiology work including isolation and identification of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungal organisms, and performing NPIP Salmonella assays, and antimicrobial sensitivity.
* Molecular work including nucleic acid extraction and real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (rtPCR) testing.
* Quality assurance procedures including performing and documenting appropriate quality control verification for all tests performed, maintaining records on all testing procedures, and completing official testing forms and reports.
* Administrative and client service activities including sample receiving, case accessioning, data entry, quality control record management, client communication, reporting of test results, client invoicing, and additional operational and administrative support services.
* Routine laboratory duties including reagent and media preparation, inventory and restocking of supplies, and cleaning and disinfecting of the laboratory and laboratory equipment.
* Assist in other areas of the laboratory as needed including animal postmortem exams, clerical tasks, building and equipment maintenance, etc.
* Perform other miscellaneous procedures which may require moderate lifting and handling of potential disease-causing agents. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a biologic, engineering, or technological field of study.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a biologic, engineering, or technological field of study plus 2 years' experience or Master's Degree in a biologic, engineering or technological field plus 1 year experience. Areas of desirable experience include disease testing procedures such as serology and microbiology testing procedures and molecular PCR techniques.
