Job Functions:

The Family Support Associate is a cross-functional position supporting Client Services, the Metro Market, and the Front Desk ensuring Mission statement is fulfilled with each client interaction. Additionally, clients are assessed according to the Family Support Center Policies and Procedures with a focus on screening clients in need of day-to-day services in a timely and efficient manner. This position is also responsible for providing resources for clients to include SNAP applications while properly utilizing HMIS real-time data entry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for providing client evaluations for determining services and approve those services based on policy, procedure, and guidelines. Take an active role in ensuring data collection is being performed based on department guidelines and reporting of data is timely and accurate.
  2. Ensure services are offered with a smooth and timely client flow exercising good stewardship and ensure Mission statement is fulfilled with each client interaction.
  3. Provide community resource information regarding other agencies, organizations, and ministries to meet varying needs of clients. Assist clients with obtaining SNAP benefits. Maintain professional manner and confidentiality standards with clients.
  4. Ensure the Metro Market and Metro Outfitters has adequate support with appropriate volunteers, and interns. Work directly with warehouse staff to ensure Market and Outfitters are stocked with inventory for the purpose of stocking shelves and ensuring availability for client needs. Utilizing appropriate requisition process for food, clothing, and hygiene items.
  5. Coordinates with Family Support Coordinator to ensure all operations of the Metro Market and Outfitters, to include but not limited to ordering inventory, stocking of food and clothes, cleanliness of all space and equipment (carts, freezers, refrigerators, shelves, floors, air vents, etc.) are met.
  6. Maintain accurate required temperature logs and follow all USDA food requirements for the Metro-Market. Complete SafeStaff / SafeServe and annual USDA training.
  7. Support Family Support Center front desk ensuring that assessment of services are being obtained with dignity, concern, care, safety and welfare of Metropolitan Ministries' and its clients. Greet all clients, volunteers, staff, and visitors with a warm genuine welcome and smile. Follow sign in and out procedures for all clients entering the Family Support Center. Receives client applications and questions; determines client's needs and directs to appropriate staff member or resource.
  8. Manage incoming calls and clients in a timely, polite, and professional manner, route calls to appropriate recipient or utilize community resources knowledge to provide a referral. Respond to voice mail messages timely and efficiently through return call or transfer to appropriate staff.
  9. Work in coordination with Family Support Supervisors to train and develop interns and work-study students.
  10. Participates in Metropolitan Ministries' events, holiday efforts, Family Advisory Committee meetings and events, extended evening hours and all other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

A minimum of a High School diploma or GED. Experience working with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness or have mental health/substance abuse issues preferred. Must be willing to continue education on homeless population and continue enhancing professional skills by taking initiative in attending appropriate job-related trainings, seminars, conferences, and workshops.

Skill Requirements:

Requires heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families and individuals. Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. Knowledge of community resources available to homeless population. Ability to deescalate clients on the edge of verbal or physical trauma. Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework. Ability to manage other employees and volunteers. Demonstrates computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office and client databases. Requires customer service and oral and written communication skills. Bi-lingual required.

Physical Requirements:

Must have adequate hearing and speaking ability. Must be capable of working outdoors in sunlight and higher temperatures on occasion. Must have the physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. or more.

Other:

Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass required background pre-employment screening. Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
