Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Senior Plastics Processing Engineer based in Dallas, TX. This person will be responsible for analyzing equipment, processes and materials to maximize production efficiencies across 15 manufacturing sites.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 10 years of experience in plastic pipe extrusion. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Maximize the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) of the extrusion processes
  • Compare production lines across the business to identify variations in process capabilities, identify best-in-class processing for a given product, and create systems to repeat that at all plants.
  • Assist operations with developing and maintaining high quality process documentation.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain departments to achieve production goals.
  • Support operations and sales to develop manufacturing processes for new products
  • Provide hands-on support at the operating site level.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Management.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related engineering/technical field preferred
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in plastic extrusion and related equipment with a focus on PVC and/or HDPE pipe products.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical understanding of all aspects of the pipe extrusion process including blending, plasticization, dies, cooling, cutting, belling, and packaging.
  • Strong leadership, organization and time management skills to meet project deadlines.
  • High skill level in use of Microsoft Suite and CAD
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of operations
  • Must have sound judgment and discretional skills and be able to work with little supervision.
  • Must be able to consistently work under pressure and simultaneously prioritize multiple projects.
  • Must be to work with sensitive and confidential material.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job and performance will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of your co-workers, facility, and team.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Independently execute projects according to projects timetable and establish daily or weekly schedules to meet project timetable.
  • Evaluate OEE for key products at multiple plants. Develop short term and long term plans for improvements
  • Being showing OEE improvement for key products
  • Begin operator training to sustain improvements


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Realize positive step changes in OEE across multiple plants using a combination of process and machinery improvements
  • Develop process documentation, procedures, and training materials to sustain improvements
  • Train operators and evaluate effectiveness

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $90,720 - $124,740. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
