Under general supervision, performs loading of Freight All Kind (FAK) into shipping vans in order to meet sailing schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Loads FAK into shipping vans to meet sailing schedule 2-3 times per week via steamships or weekly barge service.
  • Pulls orders, then verifies and prioritizes goods to be loaded.
  • Plans loads for proper weight and balance.
  • Utilizes the best size container for maximum cube, weight, and protection from the weather.
  • Handles hazardous materials and ensures compatibility when loading hazardous materials.
  • Schedules loads to assure timely delivery of goods to store locations.
  • Assists in location loss prevention and security programs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Three months experience with performing these or similar tasks
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
  • OSHA Forklift certification
  • OSHA Hazardous Materials certification


COMPETENCIES



  • Knowledge of company products sufficient to take into account weight, shape and handling requirements
  • Knowledge of safety procedures while performing forklift driving and materials handling tasks
  • Ability to read and write to handle work orders and labeling tasks
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to use simple hand tools
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to count items and verify against prepared lists. * Knowledge of rates, rules and regulations relating to shipping

  • Work is performed within a production or yard environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, equipment noise and dust.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing or kneeling.
  • Must be able to physically operate forklift equipment (climb up and down into cab, twist torso for 360 degree visibility, use arms to operate controls, etc.).
