Position Overview Worthington Steel is seeking a Controls Engineer to support automation, process improvements, and system integration at our Rome, NY facility. This position will be responsible for designing, programming, and troubleshooting control systems to enhance manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems to support manufacturing processes.
- Develop and maintain SCADA, HMI, and MES applications.
- Optimize automation systems to improve production efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Integrate new equipment and technologies into existing control architectures.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams for troubleshooting and system improvements.
- Assist with industrial network design and configuration for control system communication.
- Utilize Node-Red for data flow automation and system integration where applicable.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in controls engineering, controls systems administrator, controls technician, or industrial automation.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent).
- Experience with SCADA systems, HMI design, and industrial automation software.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Node-Red for automation and data flow.
- Background in industrial network design and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with robotics and motion control systems.
