  • Record Keeping: Diligently prepare and maintain comprehensive records for prescriptions, patient charges, and inventory, ensuring precision and accuracy at all times.

  • Collaborative Consultation: Engage with nursing and medical staff to provide expert advice on prescriptions, orders, and pharmaceutical details, addressing any patient reactions, errors, or complaints with professionalism and care.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement and uphold quality assurance and safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for patients and staff.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to all legal regulations and accreditation standards, maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and dispense medication orders.
  • Maintain and evaluate patient profiles and comprehensive drug data files to check for incompatibilities.
  • Verify completeness of information for all orders, including patient details and proper physician authorization.
  • Check all orders for insurance approval before admixing.
  • Admix drugs as ordered by physicians accurately and promptly, adhering to department and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure correct preparation of all formulas or medications and check all prescriptions for completeness.
  • Calculate correct dosages, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Organize and direct technician workflow; verify their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Provide pharmacological information to health care professionals and patients; document drug counseling for all patients.
  • Ensure adherence to all legal and professional requirements, including for controlled substances.
  • Consult with patients to assess medication compatibility based on pre-existing conditions.
  • Instruct patients on the effects of food and alcohol intake; warn of potential side effects.
  • Provide professional drug information and assistance to medical staff.
  • Participate in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs.
  • Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs; clean hood daily and between I.V. admixturing.
  • Log and date all drugs in use; check drugs monthly for expiration.
  • Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs for all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Assist with inventory control of medications; order supplies and medications; receive and shelve medications.
  • Ensure standard drug supplies are adequately stocked in all departments.
  • Prepare labels, file, and prepare billing; compute prices.
  • Receive new drug education from drug representatives; stay updated on new information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Prepare reports and monitor activities as directed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy and current state licensure. Position is entry level and requires 0-3 years experience as a registered pharmacist. Oncology background preferred. Current license as a Pharmacist in state of practice. May supervise the activities of pharmacy technicians.
