Job Title: Shipping & Receiving Handler

Reports To: Logistics Supervisor

Department:Shipping & Receiving

Shift: 7am-4pm

Summary of Job

The Receiving Clerk at Pregis Evertec in Elgin, IL, is responsible for coordinating and verifying incoming shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, and maintaining inventory records. This role requires strong attention to detail and organizational skills to support warehouse operations and material flow efficiently.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Receiving & Inspection of Shipments



  • Check incoming shipments for accuracy, including quantity, quality, and condition.
  • Compare packing slips, bills of ladings, and purchase orders to receive materials.
  • Inspect materials for damage and report discrepancies to the warehouse supervisor.



Documentation & Data Entry



  • Accurately record received shipments in the warehouse management system (WMS) or ERP system.
  • Maintain and organize shipping records, invoices, and other receiving documents.
  • Report and document any discrepancies, shortages, or damaged goods.



Coordination with Internal Departments



  • Communicate with purchasing and inventory teams to resolve receiving issues.
  • Work with production to ensure timely delivery of raw materials for manufacturing.
  • Notify appropriate personnel when special shipments or priority items arrive.



Warehouse Organization & Inventory Control



  • Properly label and store received materials in designated areas.
  • Assist in inventory cycle counts and reconciliation of stock discrepancies.
  • Ensure receiving areas are clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.



Equipment Operation & Safety Compliance



  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as needed.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and report any workplace hazards.



Continuous Improvement & Efficiency



  • Identify areas for improvement in the receiving process and recommend solutions.
  • Assist in streamlining documentation and inventory tracking methods.
  • Support other warehouse functions when needed, such as picking, packing, or shipping



Competency (Knowledge, skills, and abilities)



  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in using warehouse management systems (WMS) or ERP software.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and stand for long periods.


Environment



  • Exposure to moving equipment
  • Inside work
  • Heat may exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Humidity may exceed 80%
  • Noise may exceed 85dB+
  • Personal Protective Equipment required



Physical Characteristics



  • Frequent standing, stooping, sitting
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Frequent typing/keyboarding

  • Overtime expected per business demand



Education and Experience

Qualifications & Skills:



  • Education:High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience:1-2 years of experience in warehouse receiving or a related field preferred.
  • Certifications:Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).



Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis's total compensation package. The hourly base pay range for this role is estimated to be $23 to $28
