Carnegie Mellon University seeks a Research Project Scientist within our Computer Science Department/The Technology for Effective and Efficient Learning (TEEL) Lab in Pittsburgh, PA to manage research projects in computer science education, write academic papers for publication in conferences and journals, drive research efforts on teaching and learning about emerging technologies, support the lab's executive education programs, and contribute to grant proposals and the management of current grants. Specific duties include: (i) managing research projects in computer science education, technology-enhanced learning, or research on teaching and learning; (ii) writing academic papers in computer science education, technology-enhanced learning, or research on teaching and learning for publication in conferences and journals; (iii) designing experiments, workshops, and lectures on emerging technologies like cloud computing and data science; (iv) overseeing the development and maintenance of code review systems for large-scale research experiments and large language model (LLM)-enabled automations involving 300+ students per year, including owning the online code review (OCR) and swift code review (Swift-CR) systems as well as overseeing their maintenance and continued development; (v) recruiting and mentoring student research assistants; (vi) preparing and delivering lectures and instructional content for executive education programs on emerging technology areas, including cloud computing and data science; (vii) contributing to grant proposals and management in collaboration with PIs and Co-PIs, including budgeting, recruiting, participant support, and evaluation; and (viii) recruiting and supporting research participants. Must have a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in the data science field. Must have one (1) year of experience with each of the following: (i) research experiments in computer science education; (ii) writing research papers and presenting published work on computer science education; (iii) designing, architecting, implementing, testing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining cloud-based applications; (iv) identifying the appropriate tools and architectures to implement a cloud-based design; and (v) analyzing the trade-offs between different tools and cloud offerings to meet real-world constraints.
