Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: Pharmacist Intern/Pharmacist in Training, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, assists in the various activities of the pharmacy department. Pharmacist Intern/Pharmacist in Training assists the pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacist Intern/Pharmacist in Training function in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines and state and federal regulations. Intern or Pharmacist in Training will be allowed to process orders but the orders must be validated by a Texas registered pharmacist before dispensing. Pharmacy intern/Pharmacist in Training will be allowed to answer drug information questions but must have the answer verified by a Texas registered pharmacist before they can dispense the information. Pharmacy intern/Pharmacist in Training are allowed to give patients counseling regarding instructions on how to use their medication, expected side effects and general precautions as well as interview patients to obtain further clarification regarding medication use. Pharmacy intern/Pharmacist in Training will assist when needed to perform MUE on patient charts when needed. The intern/pharmacist in training will participate in continuing education with the Texas licenses pharmacists as time permits. All work performed by a pharmacy intern/pharmacist in training must be supervised by a Texas registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: 1. An aptitude for working with other health care professionals 2. Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately. 3. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. 4. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency requests. 5. Ability to manage a diverse workforce. 6. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). 7. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy 8. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer. EDUCATION / LICENSURE: 1. Current enrollment in a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at an accredited School/College of Pharmacy 2. Completion, at minimum, of initial academic year 3.
