General Superintendent

Benefit Classification: Salary, Exempt

Education Requirements: A four-year degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field; or equivalent education and experience.

Experience: Minimum of seven years of experience in leading and supervising construction teams; or have demonstrated leadership and supervision abilities to teach and develop construction supervisors.

Position Summary: Be a champion of corporate culture and Standard Work. Ensure processes and procedures are enforced on projects sites and address best practices that require improvements. Serve as a technical expert and consultant to specified site teams and support the company in the movement of leadership personnel.

Essential Job Functions

Be a champion of Standard Work (including Work Methods, Work Instructions, and Lessons Learned), especially as it relates to both Safety and Quality.

  • Assess Blattner Energy culture and verify that Standard Work, Sequence, and Flow is followed, enforced, and consistent on all projects to ensure site teams are safe, delivering quality, productive, and cost effective, documenting any necessary changes needed.
  • Work with the Quality department to develop Standard Work documents that demonstrate the best methods or processes when the current documents fall short.
  • Assist site management with technical training and the development of leadership personnel in Standard Work, safety, quality, etc., by possessing a clear understanding of how the company operates in accordance with Standard Work and mandatory operating procedures.

Collaborate and coordinate with the EHS Managers to ensure the project teams are carrying out their responsibilities with regards to the corporate safety program, electrical safety program, and project site-specific safety policies. Evaluate supervisors' level of competency for work assignments, advancement potential, wages, and bonus review. Responsible for the movement of supervisory personnel and equipment resources as applicable. Assist in the recruitment of leadership personnel by participating in the interview and hiring process. Serve as a consultant to site teams on relevant technical aspects to determine the best outcome for the company, sharing personal knowledge and experiences as appropriate. Communicate and collaborate with the Site Manager/Project Manager on resolving current and potential project or resource issues. resource and project problem areas.

Other Job Functions

Adhere to all company policies, corporate values, and state and federal regulations. Assist Superintendents with ideas, methods, and processes on all work and resources. Work closely with Project Manager, Site Manager, Trade Superintendent, and Field Construction Coordinator on monitoring essential work progress, efficiencies, and costs; and taking necessary corrective action. Support economic conditions by learning and identifying latest equipment, tools, and material trends in the market. Coordinate and perform special assignments for the Directors of Construction. Periodically review hourly wages to ensure craft employees' wages are in the appropriate range; on an annual basis, review and propose an increase for the foremen.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Have excellent communication and people skills, as well as interpersonal and collaborative skills at all levels within the organization and clients.
  • Articulate clear and concise messages including translating technical material when necessary.
  • Understand applicable OSHA regulation for construction projects.
  • Possess the leadership skills and experience necessary to train and develop all Superintendents on Standard Work including Work Methods, Work Instructions, Lessons Learned, Sequence and Flow.
  • Understand job costing, production labor hours, and reporting on all related work.
  • Lead groups of peers and/or subordinates.
  • Orchestrate conversations, meetings, presentations, etc.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other analytical tools.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Extensively travel, with one week working remote from home per month.

Safety Specific Job Functions

  • Support the adherence to all company policies, corporate values, and state and federal regulations.
  • Assist the Site Safety Coordinators with ideas, methods and processes on all work and resources.
  • Support site leadership on resolving resource and project problem areas as needed.
  • Work closely with Project Manager, Site Manager, Trade Superintendent and Site Safety Coordinator on assessing project risks and taking necessary corrective actions.
  • Support economic conditions by learning and identifying the latest training, equipment, tools, and material trends in the market.
  • Lead the creation of both soft and hard skills' milestones for the professional development of Site Safety Coordinators by applying both formal and informal means to help Site Safety Coordinators reach their occupational potential.
  • Collaborate, coordinate, and perform special assignments for the Risk Management Director.
  • Collaborate with Site Safety Coordinators, Site Managers, and Project Managers to establish and train the site-specific safety manual, Safety Program, Electrical Safety Program, and Standard Work.
  • Interact on a regular basis with Work-Comp, Corporate training personnel, DOT personnel, Environmental Specialists, Corporate Management, Project Leadership, and General Superintendents.

Turbine Installation Specifics

  • Possess knowledge of tools and current crane operating standards for equipment uses and limitations.
  • Understand OSHA regulations regarding cranes and rigging.
  • Demonstrate experience with mobile cranes.
  • Read and understand load charts and crane manuals.
  • Help trade supervision establish efficient crews and jobsite organization with large workforces and multiple disciplines on the job.
  • Support both union and non-union workforces.
  • Quickly develop/obtain knowledge of turbine installation methods, equipment selection, material selection, and materials used on wind projects.
  • Support and lead focus on Tower Wiring, Mechanical Completion, and Generator Alignment activities.
  • Support self-performance and subcontractors in both Union and non-Union workforces.
$148,085.00 - $214,723.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
