THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Greene is looking for individuals with outstanding leadership abilities and strong organizational skills. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will oversee subordinate officers, ensuring that all assigned tasks adhere to the policies, procedures, and regulations related to the care, custody, and control of inmates within the institution. Your responsibilities include planning, organizing, assigning, and monitoring the duties of correctional officers. You will conduct inspections throughout your designated area to verify that all officers remain vigilant and effective in their roles, while also completing the Commissioned Officers Daily Inspection Report. It is essential to manage officer assignments to optimize effectiveness with minimal personnel. Additionally, you will perform semi-annual and annual evaluations of employee performance, interview candidates for subordinate positions, and provide training for new staff, ensuring that trainees are engaged at the appropriate level of their training phase. Furthermore, you will interpret and communicate the institution's rules, regulations, policies, and objectives to your subordinates.

Manage the daily schedules and operations of the facility, which include overseeing Security, Food Service, Plant Maintenance, Medical Services, and Recreational Activities. Plan and coordinate the movement of inmates to and from their work assignments, recreational activities, and meal times. Ensure that all significant inmate movements and activities are properly supervised and controlled. Additionally, maintain and submit all required records and reports related to transport and inmate movements.

Daily inspections of inmate housing units are conducted to address any issues that may arise. This includes taking, receiving, and verifying periodic inmate counts. Surveillance of the institution's grounds, buildings, and inmate work areas is monitored to identify any irregular behaviors. Any noticeable changes in inmates' personalities, demeanor, or participation in programs are reported. Additionally, involvement in counseling inmates regarding personal adjustment issues is part of the role. All necessary records and reports concerning inmate activities and incidents are maintained and submitted accordingly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week with rotating days off.
  • Work Schedule is to be determined.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

Other Requirements:

  • This position requires Successful Completion of Basic Training in Elizabethtown
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
