About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Temporary Survey Field Technician to join our Whitefish Team. A Survey Technician performs field and office tasks while working with and supervising crew members. This position will primarily be field-based (90% of the time), with some office work required.This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt position that will report to a Party Chief or Project Manager. This position is based out of Whitefish, MT. Candidates from the local Northwest Montana area are strongly preferred.

What you will accomplish

  • Conducts fieldwork under the supervision of the Party Chief, including Boundary Survey, Construction Staking and River Surveying.
  • Communicates regularly with their supervisor.
  • Takes initiative, resolves problems, and creates improved procedures to ensure that tasks are completed in the most effective and efficient manner.
  • In coordination with their supervisor, assists with data QAQC.
  • Maintains SWCA's high standard of quality assurance, and is motivated to identify and resolve problems in creative ways.
  • Work closely with the Party Chiefs, as well as team lead, project managers, directors, and leaders throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherences to its mission, vision, and values
  • Adheres to the safety program and looks out for the safety of others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards
  • Willingness to learn, have fun, and grow into increased management responsibilities

Experience and qualifications for success

  • An associate's degree in Land Surveying is preferred but not required.
  • Experience providing QA/QC review of field documents, site forms and reports preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and to work well with others as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to use industry standard word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Trimble GPS is preferred.
  • Ability to travel and be able to conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather conditions, often in rugged terrain, and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.

An employee in this Whitefish, MT based position can expect an hourly rate of $18.98-$24.67/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
