Job Summary

The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately through the end of December. Please note: must be able to start work remotely at 6 am every Wednesday. This position will also require working on-site 3 days per week at Parnassus campus.

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF provides outstanding patient care, promotes cutting-edge basic and clinical science research, and educates the next generation of health care. providers while focusing on increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization.

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care ranks as one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with an annual budget of $145 million. The two largest components of the annual budget are Professional Fee Income and Extramural Funds, representing 90.4% or $132 million (including ZSFG professional fees and 6.9% or $10.1 million of the annual budget respectively. Currently, the department has over 298 Faculty members, 27 Staff Physicians, 205 Staff Employees, 6 Fellows, 90 Residents, 12 Non-Faculty Academics, 11 postdocs, 68 CRNAs, and 5 Nurse Practitioners at ZSFG.

Applies knowledge about curriculum, requirements and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation.

Overall Program Management:

  • Collaborates with the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) to ensure accurate credit reporting and tracking for learners in the department (faculty, CRNAs, residents, fellows, staff).
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of data and tracking across UCSF systems (Filemaker, MedHub, Highmarks/CE Portal) and external networks (AANA, ABA, ASA).
  • Maintains close communication with leadership and contacts from all campuses (Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Mount Zion Pain Clinic, UCSF Mission Bay Hospitals, SF VA Medical Center, UCSF Fresno & Oakland) regarding educational content and CME policy updates.
  • Monitors learning sessions and conducts audits to ensure compliance with CME regulations.

Program Accreditation and Compliance:

  • Oversees scheduling, coordination, and execution of diverse topics (e.g., Global Health, OB Anesthesia, Neuro Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, Wellness, Sustainability, Trauma, Regional Anesthesia) to provide a broad curriculum for faculty, residents, fellows, CRNAs, medical students, and staff.
  • Leads interdepartmental efforts to develop and execute collaborative events improving perioperative safety culture, coordinating between multiple departments (surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesia, etc.).
  • Works with department representatives to develop, certify, monitor, and evaluate regularly scheduled series.
  • Develops reporting and measurement procedures to inform activities and ensures timely submission of deliverables with the Director of CME.
  • Adapts curriculum structures and requests to meet evolving needs for various RSS courses (virtual, hybrid, and in-person events).
  • Ensures CME activities are designed and delivered according to ACCME criteria, standards, and UCSF policies.
  • Develops and manages program communication resources and marketing strategies to promote CME initiatives and curricular programs (e.g., Visiting Professor Program).
  • Markets CME programs to drive awareness and participation using various communication mediums and formats.
  • Collects and analyzes feedback to improve educational offerings and meet teaching and learning goals.
  • Manages program files and data, ensuring compliance with regulatory and University policies.
  • Oversees program databases and websites, coordinating updates with Anesthesia IT.

MOCA (Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia):

  • Coordinates with department representatives, finance leadership, OCME, and SENMOCA to provide seamless practice performance assessment and improvement training.
  • Manages registration fees, quarterly finance reconciliation, and faculty benefits verification.
  • Stays current with faculty benefits, communications, and registration processes; acts as the point of contact for participant inquiries.
  • Schedules course instructors and processes post-course honorariums.
  • Ensures proper registration, payment, and faculty benefits verification for live courses.
Residency Anesthesia Education Day Support:
  • Works with the Director of Curricula to plan and execute Anesthesia Education Days.
  • Coordinates with education coordinators to ensure room reservations, faculty nonclinical time, food setup, and technology are arranged for each education day.

Additional Support:

  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Handles reimbursements, payroll, logistics (supply management, catering, reservations, facilities, etc.).

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • Advanced knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements.
    Advanced knowledge of a health professions education program curriculum and requirements.
  • Maintain a broad range of expertise in health professions education theory and industry best practices, including:
    • Understanding adult learning principles and assessment strategies.
    • In-depth knowledge of ACCME and AMA requirements for CME.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgment.
    Advanced interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and integrate with others throughout the organization.
  • Successful experience working with people with diverse backgrounds and skills.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Advanced personal organization skills and ability to apply them to program administration, including organizing critical files for compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications


  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote teaching and learning goals.
  • In-depth knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program.
  • Advanced knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research.
  • Ability to develop and implement complex processes and systems to improve program quality and efficiency, while reducing costs.
  • Master's degree in a related area.
