Position Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of quality inspection and testing of the company's products, using traditional metrology tools and techniques. Performs a wide variety of routine and non-routine inspections in the production process and receives inspections using pre-determined methods, including visual, dimensional, mechanical, test, and functional. Also perform routine and special ballistics testing in fixture firing and commercial firearms. Includes production support; data collection; troubleshooting and root cause analysis; and workplace organization and safety.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • Perform ammunition testing to ensure compliance with all Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute (SAAMI) standards for ammunition manufacturing following approved testing protocols for all key performance data including (but not limited to) - Pressure, Velocity, Accuracy, Primer Sensitivity, Bullet Retention and Extraction, Waterproof testing, Weapon RPM, entering the data in a timely manner. Must be able to handle all types of commercial firearms effectively and safely.
  • Gains knowledge through data interpretation to make proper adjustments to ammunition to meet the SIG SAUER standard.
  • Identifies Non-conforming product and starts the Red Tag process.
  • Completes BOM review pre and post shift for correct build components.
  • Makes Ballistic Gel for testing.
  • Checks and Maintains bullet traps for all ranges.
  • Sets production scales.
  • Must score 70% on Tech Eval after 90 days.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.


Secondary Responsibilities:



  • Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities, including requests for maintenance assistance when needed.
  • Fit for PAPPR.
  • Perform any task assigned by Quality management.


Education and/or Experience:



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Drawing/blueprint reading, including working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Entry-level armorer understanding of the company products to facilitate the use of judgment in determining product acceptability in subjective situations.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute (SAAMI) standards for ammunition specifications and manufacturing requirements including all appropriate testing protocols. Establish and maintain functional knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all quality inspection equipment used in the ammunition manufacturing process.
  • Rudimentary knowledge of components, assemblies, product form, and fit and function.
  • Basic MS Word and Excel skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, share information, respect and assist other team members.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
