In this role, you will be responsible for assigned project designs, coordination, client communications, and associated construction administration. Your responsibilities also include the supervision of the staff assigned to the projects, insuring staff utilization, overseeing the work performed by the assigned staff, the mechanical project budget/time management, and ensuring the design is completed within the project design schedule.

As a Project Engineer, you will manage project designs, coordinate with clients, oversee construction administration, and supervise project staff.

Job Responsibilities:

    Conceptual Design
    • Ensures understanding and compliance with owner's building program requirements and facility or corporate standards related to refrigeration and process cooling systems design.
    • Confirms and reviews applicable codes and standards such as but not limited to the International Building Code Council (Mechanical, and Fire), ASHRAE Standards (90.1, 62 and 15) IIAR Standards and NFPA.
    • Given the scope of design services, the owner's building program and facility standards, building code research and relevant industry standards, establish and document the refrigeration systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.
    • Works with building/facility owner to ensure that the appropriate cost-effective systems/products are utilized in their facility.
    • Works with building owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value engineering options as may be necessary.
    • Knows when to obtain support from Lead Refrigeration Engineer or Senior Refrigeration Engineer for assistance to determine engineering and design building requirements.
  • Detailed Design
    • Works with Group Lead Refrigeration Engineer and/or Senior Refrigeration Engineer in the establishment of the building envelop thermal insulation values for the purpose of developing refrigeration load calculations.
    • Performs and documents engineering calculations related to refrigeration and process cooling systems for the purpose of selecting code compliant systems and equipment.
    • Preforms design, layout and size, chilled glycol, chilled water, condenser systems and related equipment.
    • Performs design, layout and sizing of ammonia, CO2 and synthetic refrigeration equipment selections.
    • Performs design, layout and sizing of ammonia, CO2 and synthetic refrigeration systems.
    • Drafts or oversees the drafting of the refrigeration and process cooling systems and in doing so establishes the appropriate level of drawing detail to ensure completeness and accuracy of design and construction cost.
    • Schedules refrigeration equipment with the appropriate accessories and remarks.
    • Develops the necessary control drawings (schematics, points list and sequence of operation) to ensure adequate environmental temperature and humidity control or system and equipment performance.
    • Ensures that there is complete and accurate specification.
  • Construction Support
    • Works with Group Lead Refrigeration Engineer and/or Senior Refrigeration Engineer with Problem solving for field oversights.
    • Shop drawing/Submittal reviews.
    • Works with Group Lead Refrigeration Engineer and/or Senior Refrigeration Engineer on field inspections and reports.
    • Works with Group Lead Refrigeration Engineer and/or Senior Refrigeration Engineer in Photograph review
    • Works with Group Lead Refrigeration Engineer and/or Senior Refrigeration Engineer on Responses to RFI's
  • Project Management
    • Oversees the work performed by the assigned staff.
  • Planning, Scheduling and Profitability
    • Monitors what is to be included in design package issue (pricing documents, SD, DD, and CD).
    • Works with projects Lead Refrigeration Engineer to ensure that project schedule will be met and complete documents provided for each submission.
    • Designs project within provided design budget and track additional hours utilized when scope is expanded.
  • Professional Development
    • Maintains required licensing CEU.
    • Proactively attempts to receive in-house/out-of-house training to maintain create design skills.
  • Leadership
    • Manages assigned staff on the projects.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other duties which may be assigned as needed.

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (ABET accredited preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant design experience, specifically in refrigeration systems, including ammonia.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Oversee assigned staff and ensure project schedules and budgets are met.
  • Maintain required licenses and pursue ongoing training.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

Salary Range:

The base salary for this position is $80,000 - $145,000. The actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
