SUMMARY

To ensure and maintain the highest standards of product quality by collaborating with engineering, production, and management teams to integrate quality practices into every stage of product development and delivery. The position requires the incumbent to be resourceful, assertive, self-reliant and consistent, in dealing with internal and external customers on a wide range of issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES



  • Act as a departmental point of contact for matters related to quality-related processes.
  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Lead or participate in an audit team in auditing of processes, procedures, products, and subcontractors. The role in the audit team may switch between leading and supporting, as appropriate for the situation.
  • Audit and evaluation of subcontractors may require periodic travel to the subcontractor's work site.
  • Support external audits with governmental or regulatory bodies.
  • Establish and maintain effective departmental internal procedures and companywide Quality Management System.
  • Monitor workflows, analyze quality performance data, and identify trends or issues to drive improvements.
  • Investigate defects or quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work with engineering, supply chain, planning and production teams to ensure quality standards are met at all stages from design through production.
  • Provide clear, professional updates to relevant parties about investigation findings, resolution steps, and preventative measures.
  • Provide training for team members on quality standard and tools to ensure consistent application of quality practices
  • Advocate for change by helping people change the way they think and what they think about in performing their jobs.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Quality or Engineering.
  • CQE and/or CQA ASQ, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing certifications preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in quality assurance in product design/engineering and manufacturing environment. Experience in maritime industry a plus.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and related quality standards. Ability to understand ship specifications, drawings, MIL-STD, and ABS rules a plus.
  • Proficient in statistical process control and quality tools like FMEA, control charts, cause-and-effect diagrams, Pareto charts.
  • Familiar with coding and data analytics tools such as Python, R, Tableau.
  • Proficient in software such as Microsoft Office, Confluence, Jira.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining quality management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong written skills


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.

Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 20% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Completes all tasks within schedule, budget and quality commitments. Work products are accurate and conform to high standards of quality.

PAY SCALE

$81,700 - $105,700

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
