Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Counselor (Recruiter) for the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education and the Assistant Dean of Academic Administration, the Student Recruiter is primarily responsible for planning and coordinating all recruitment aspects for the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy academic programs. The position will also be involved in day-to-day student counseling as needed by the student services team.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Plans and implements strategic recruitment with marketing initiatives to reach the enrollment objectives for school degree programs, including the Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP), Master of Public Policy (MPP), Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Public Informatics (MPI), Ph.D. in Planning and Public Policy, and the undergraduate programs in Public Health, Health Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning and Design, and City and Regional Planning, as well as related dual and joint degree programs.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of the theoretical and applied fields of planning, public policy, public health, public informatics, and health administration.
  • Responsible for communication and outreach to prospective students and representing programs internally and externally.
  • Recruitment activities include attending recruitment events for undergraduate and graduate programs and content and production support for some print communication initiatives, such as direct mail campaigns and digital media.
  • Coordinates in-house recruiting events.
  • Manages undergraduate student ambassadors and their recruitment activities.
  • Expected outcomes include recruiting students from key populations that meet the enrollment goals of the program, expanding national visibility, and increasing enrollment of in and out-of-state students across the School's program portfolio.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree preferably in marketing, communications, or degree in higher education, student affairs, or related degree program and two years of experience in recruitment/admissions in higher education.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of a graduate level (Master's/PhD) academic environment is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and editing communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations to a wide array of audiences.
  • Must be data-driven and innovative; a self-starter with strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to travel, particularly during the fall months, and to work some evenings/weekends.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of word processing, database software, Microsoft Access and Excel, Internet (social media), and email.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in recruitment/admissions in higher education.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Student recruitment experience preferred.
  • Experience in a student focused higher education environment also preferred. admissions/enrollment development and student affairs management experience in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Experience using social media (Facebook, LinkedIn and Skype) for recruiting/admissions purposes is also preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience in the fields of planning, public policy, urban design, health administration, and/or public health a plus.

Equipment Utilized
  • Superior computer software knowledge, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite, Canvas, Degree Navigator, Perceptive Content, Salesforce, internal shared databases, networking inter-office, web-based and IMS university services. Email and email listserv use/coordination needed.
