Overview Under direction of a manager, the Technical Associate will create, review, and update Network Distribution structural specifications as well as working on evaluation and design of new structures, covers, gratings, and materials. This Engineer will also review structural designs to ensure they comply with company specifications. They will evaluate damaged structures and make repair recommendations. Additional roles include interaction with other groups and departments to support and respond to all structural related issues.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and implement structural designs for electrical facilities associated with the distribution system.
- Serve as a technical consultant within the Company or the industry in his/her field of specialization.
- Write, revise, and update departments specifications and documents.
- Use technical competence to develop designs for electric distribution structures.
- Approve design and fabrication details of manufacturers equipment at their production facilities.
- Perform technical and economic studies to determine the best design features of the major components that support Con Edisons electrical systems and equipment.
- Assist the Customer Service Regions in the solution of technical problems.
- Act in place of the Manager when so delegated.
- Function as expert Company witness.
- Assume full responsibility and leadership role when responding to emergency field problems in his/her field of expertise.
- Prepare and teach technical seminars related to Con Edisons distribution practices.
- Develop designs and equipment to meet the highest environmental standards.
- Handle all civil/structural and mechanical projects that are associated with the Equipment Section Distribution and S/S Equipment Primary functions include, but are not limited to, the inspection and repair recommendations and solutions for damaged underground structures.
- Perform failure analysis and be able to improve existing design for enhanced future reliability.
- Participate in the development of project scoping documents, specification preparation/revisions, and project appropriations.
- Work with internal and external customers including Electric Operation crews, Supply Chain, EH&S, Engineering groups, vendors, manufacturers and support staff and various levels of management.
- Represent the department and the group at meetings and site visits when so delegated.
- Identify areas to improve the groups performance and increase efficiency.
- Audit manufacturing facilities when required.
- Perform other tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience or
Relevant Work Experience
- Must be able to handle multiple projects, and be detail oriented. Required
- Must be able to do research, exercise independent judgment and render sound business/technical decisions. Required
- Must possess strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and follow up skills and the ability to motivate people. Required
- Must be able to perform and review structural calculations in accordance with current Code practices and requirements. Required
- Must have project management skills and the ability to develop root cause analysis reports. Required
- Must be able to manage and exercise independent judgement and render sound business decisions. Required
- Proficient with MS Office suite, and OneNote software. Required
- Structural inspection experience. Preferred
- Field or supervisory experience is preferred. Preferred

- Field visits may require ladder climbing and working in underground structures.
