This position is eligible for a Department of Defense SkillBridge Program Internship for active duty servicemembers transitioning out of the U.S. Military.
North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Supports the Environmental Support Services Contract at the Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) by assisting with environmental compliance activities, including sampling, inspections, and data management to ensure the installation adheres to federal, state, and local regulations. Key responsibilities include digitizing records, managing document uploads for customer review, and supporting sampling efforts related to Safe Drinking Water, Aquifer Protection Permits, Stormwater, and long-term monitoring programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists senior staff with regulatory compliance sampling to regulated sites such as, groundwater, wastewater, drinking water, and stormwater samples for analysis.
- Assists with long term monitoring and remedial activities at former fuel stations.
- Prepares environmental samples for laboratory analysis, including managing chain of custody documentation and packaging.
- Assists senior staff with environmental inspections under the Aquifer Protection, Storm Water and Spill Control Countermeasures inspections throughout YPG.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of environmental inspection reports and documentation of findings.
- Assist with data entry and tracking in Excel or similar application.
- Digitizes environmental records and uploads documentation to a share drive for customer review and approval.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and make decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgment, work under pressure, work with minimal supervision and prioritize workload
- Ability to read and comply with project direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures, and/or execute tasks after receiving verbal direction
- Strong attention to detail and self-motivated
- Able to effectively adapt to changing situations that might be outside of related duties
Special Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Required to pass a Public Trust background check
- Required to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to complete 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification upon hire
- Ability to complete Antiterrorism Level I Training (OJT) upon hire
- Ability to complete Cyber Awareness Challenge Training (OJT) upon hire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pursuit of bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field
- Experience and skills with computer applications, including MS Office Suite
- Experience in groundwater sampling, soil sampling, or related tasks
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must have the physical stamina to work outdoors for extended hours, often in challenging hot weather conditions, and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, etc. for long periods of time.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate, but high levels requiring hearing protection can be expected. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
