Overview

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

The Fire Safety Technician position is a diverse position that influences life safety conditions in a shipyard manufacturing facility. A Fire Safety Technician will be responding to and dealing with all types of emergency responses within Electric Boat. Those responses range from fire-related emergencies, hazardous material incidents, confined space rescues, high angle rope rescues and EMS responses. Fire Safety Technicians will also certify atmospheres in all confined spaces, preform fire-safety inspections of buildings and submarine units, surveillance of all hot work on the facility and fire code enforcement in accordance with NFPA, OSHA, RI Fire Code, Electric Boat and Navy requirements.

Fire Safety Technician will be trained for confine spaces certifications, ventilation, and 24 hour re-certifications. Other responsibilities are daily vehicle inventory and inspections, yearly testing of fire hydrants, dry and wet pipe sprinkler testing, monthly testing of fire alarm and fire systems, fire extinguisher and fire hose maintenance, quarterly and bi-annual testing. Working with maintenance personnel to repair and update fire alarms and sprinklers. Responsibilities ranging from haz-mat locker inspection; FDC inspections, AED maintenance, gas meter maintenance and testing.



Qualifications

Required:

    High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Rhode Island EMT license and NREMT. NREMT exempt prior to 2012
  • FF-1, FF-II (Pro Board)
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operators license
  • Must be able to obtain DOD clearance

Preferred:

  • Fire Alarm and or Sprinkler system knowledge
  • Confine Space Rescue
  • High Angle Rope Rescue
  • Hazardous Materials qualification
  • Pro Board Certifications


Skills

  • Must be able to work from heights.
  • Must be able to climb staging and ladders.
  • Must fit inside confine spaces.
