At the NHCI High Risk Clinic we specialize in providing comprehensive care for individuals at high risk for breast cancer. Our team is dedicated to offering compassionate, state-of-the-art care to those navigating their breast health. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our high-risk breast cancer clinic and play a key role in the care of our patients.

Provides nursing assistance and patient care to provide for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients. Assists physcians/physician assitants/nurse practitioners in medical office setting. Performs duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team while sharing various tasks with other licensed and nonlicensed members.

The Medical Assistant will support our team by assisting with various clinical tasks in our multidisciplinary office setting, which houses both the NHCI High Risk Program and NHCI Cancer Genetics Program. Some duties include phlebotomy, lab order entry and specimen tracking, insurance verification, scheduling appointments, patient education, and compassionate care to ensure the comfort, safety, and personal needs of patients. The Medical Assistant will work closely with Nurse Practitioners, Physician's Assistants, and Genetic Counselors to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy (blood draws) and assist with specimen collection and tracking.
  • Enter lab orders into various laboratory provider portals and track results.
  • Assist Nurse Practitioners and Physician's Assistants with their clinic.
  • Administrative tasks may be required, including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and obtaining medical records.
  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy while delivering high-quality care.
  • Support patients throughout their clinical visit as well as ongoing care, addressing their needs and maintaining a compassionate environment.
  • Provide patient education, answering questions and concerns related to their care.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and well-organized clinic environment.
  • Perform other clinical tasks as delegated by supervising providers after competency is established.

REQUIRED

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

PREFERRED

  1. Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant program or Graduate of a U.S. Military medic course.
  2. One (1) year of healthcare experience.
  3. Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units.
