Job Duties:
Apply advanced specialization in psychotherapeutic music therapy to use music and musical activities to help students improve their physical, psychological, cognitive, and behavioral status. Specifically,
- Collaborate with educational team to conduct research to assess students’ needs on music therapy interventions, design customized music sessions by using various musical elements, and establish goals and objectives for music therapy.
- Use singing, song writing, musical improvisation, receptive music listening, and other specialty techniques to provide music therapy experiences to address students’ needs, such as using music for self-care, adjusting to life changes, improving cognitive functioning, raising self-esteem, communicating, controlling impulses, and improving academic results.
- Engage students in music experiences to identify their responses to different styles of music, types of musical experiences, such as improvising or listening, or elements of music, such as tempo or harmony.
- Communicate with students and their parents to build rapport, acknowledge their progress, and reflect upon their reactions to musical experiences.
- Prepare and maintain music therapy session plans, observations, progress reports, attendance, and materials. Analyze data to determine the effectiveness of music sessions and make recommendations for further therapy. Participate in the regular review of music sessions to assess and implement quality improvements.
- Assess current music supplies and resources and maintain musical instruments.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapists or a closely related field.
