SUMMARY

The Operations Leader is responsible for the Operational Performance of the Minneapolis facility. Responsibilities including the safety of employees, product quality, volume, cost, and training and development within the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) system The Operations Leader is accountable for building an engaged workforce characterized by mutual trust, open communication, teamwork, and recognition that positively impacts the plant performance.

The Operations Leader will lead with a clear view of where the organization needs to be in alignment to the plant's mission of driving zero losses while consistently delivering results, leading with a decision making approach that models and teaches the proper inclusion of analytics, team ideas and personal experiences, communicate in a way that positively shapes customer, team member and community action, and build the OC talent pipeline by growing all team members and recruiting the best of the best.

Span of control: Four (4) salaried direct reports; 62 hourly indirect reports across four shifts.


PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountable for employee safety



  • Models the appropriate safe work practices and behaviors and prioritizes safety above all other metrics.
  • Leads by example and assists/encourages operators to achieve 100% safety engagement; maintain active engagement in safety initiatives to maintain a zero-incident culture.
  • Participates in the development of operational objectives for the plant that are aligned to Corporate and Division strategic objectives.



Demonstrate the commitment to build an exceptional workplace environment, fostering open communication and employee engagement through leadership



  • Leads through and exhibits Owens Corning's core values.
  • Lead the Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Pillar to develop and maintain world class manufacturing results.
  • Engages all teams to collaboratively own the success of the business by contributing to continuous improvement in the areas of safety, quality, cost, productivity, etc.
  • Regularly evaluates the strengths and development opportunities of the team, as well as invests in the growth and development of team members to achieve sustained success.
  • Successfully engages employees across the organization to participant and contribute to TPM through strategies such as communication, training, etc.



Understand product quality; Lead people and manage systems to drive improved productivity



  • Oversee roofing operations activities to ensure schedules and performance requirements are met and system resources are utilized effectively.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance, asphalt, shipping, finance, and supply chain departments, coordinate strategies, communications, and joint initiatives for the Minneapolis facility.
  • Monitor overall operations performance and implement production, cost, and quality control mechanisms to support the success of the facility.
  • Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure optimized production processes.
  • Maintains professional and motivating communication skills. Encourage all employees to build strong working relationships and communication through sharing, respect, candor, integrity, innovation, accountability, and fun.



SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to support the success of the manufacturing plant by coordinating resources to create short-term and long-term strategies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication, listening, coaching, delegation, and conflict management and resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive environment; ability to lead highly diverse teams and encourage growth mindset and increased engagement.
  • Ability to understand the critical nature of personal leadership by example and uses a high level of engagement with others.



COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

A strong candidate must be able to:




  • Utilize basic computer skills; ability to work in SAP, POP, Excel, Word, EASE, and AQ.
  • Log into and navigate Owens Corning Learning portal to complete required online training routinely.



EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor's degree in operations, Business, or engineering, preferred
  • 5-7 years manufacturing leadership experience or equivalent applicable experience



A strong candidate would have:




  • Demonstrated ability as an Operations Leader
  • Experience with TPM deployment and sustainment
  • Able to teach and communicate in simple, impactful terms
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience ramping up and maintaining production at a manufacturing facility
  • Can think strategically; execute a chosen direction and deliver results



ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT




  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs without assistance
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 80 lbs with assistance
  • Work for up to 12 hours in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
  • Operate/sit/drive, as required during shift work lasting 12 hours.
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs and forklift to enter work areas
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel toed shoes, ear plugs, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) as necessary for task
  • Schedule flexibility as needed to accommodate operation needs
