Senior Security Officer

Job Description

Assists in coordinating the operations of security areas. Leads and guides secuirty staff. Protects and safeguards hospital property, personnel, patients and visitors. Maintains order, detects crime, and works to prevent future occurrences; operates hospital vehicles; enforces Hospital Security policies. Guides security staff while monitoring and controlling vehicular traffic and parking on hospital grounds. Provides emergency coverage when department is understaffed; maintains order, detects, and prevents crime and enforces the policies of the hospital.

Job Responsibility

1. Assigns security officers to various posts; makes up daily rosters, coordinates request for time off, and assigns staff to transportation.
2. Provides emergency coverage when security department is understaffed due to illness or other circumstances.
3. Dispatches Security Officers to investigate fire alarms, bomb scares and other incidents requiring attention.
4. Patrols and monitors buildings and grounds to protect life and property and to prevent fire, thefts, vandalism, illegal entry and enforce hospital policies.
5. Enforces access control policy; secures doors, locks, etc. and activates or de-activates alarms, as required.
6. Controls and regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic in a safe, orderly and respectful manner.
7. Operates and maintains facility vehicles in accordance with regulatory compliance and policies.
8. Operates and maintains all security and facility equipment in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines and facility policies.
9. Writes incident report in accordance with policies and procedures to document events.
10. Checks contents of packages.
11. Assists security personnel in the performance of their duties, through the use of physical force, when required.
12. Reports all fire hazards and safety violations; escorts hospital personnel, as required.Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification

Associate's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.Current License to practice as a Security Guard in New York State, or Current License to practice as an Armed Security Guard in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
