Job Description
The purpose of the Finance and Accounting Technician position is to assist the Finance and Account department. This is accomplished by supporting accounts payable & accounts receivable staff, performing vendor account review, receiving invoices; processing payments and reconciling payment activity. Other duties include answering phone, e-mail, and face-to-face inquiries; maintaining spreadsheets; and providing other support as needed.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience
Minimum of one year of experience performing accounting functions
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented mindset
  • Mathematical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to accurately input, update, and retrieve financial data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of analyzing financial reports to verify data accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of vendor payment processing
  • Some accounting/bookkeeping coursework
  • Familiarity with invoice management and expense tracking procedures
  • Experience with financial database systems
