In the role of an Accountant Sr. you will be working in Finance & Administration.
Purpose
To perform functions that ensure the Controller's Office is successful in meeting the ongoing financial operation needs of MCW by providing timely and accurate deliverables related to capital projects, fixed assets and tax-related activities.
Primary Functions
Collaborate with the Financial Operations team to:
- Perform accounting and reporting activities related to capital projects and fixed assets.
- Assist with significant and/or complex capital projects, including initial account establishment, budget maintenance, expenditure monitoring and capitalization in accordance with policies.
- Manage other capital projects, working closely with other team members.
- Prepare month-end capital project schedules, accruals, and elimination journal entries.
- Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts, including fixed assets, construction in progress, and facility-related project funds.
- Approve capital project purchase order requisitions and provide purchase order accounting guidance to departments that perform purchase order entry for capital projects.
- Collaborate with the Planning, Design and Construction and Facilities teams to adequately monitor and account for all construction projects and facility-related activities.
- Perform accounting and reporting activities related to cloud computing projects.
- Prepare the depreciation and cloud computing annual budgets and quarterly forecasting. Prepare depreciation estimates for strategic investment capital budget requests.
- Assist Accountant Sr II with researching, monitoring and implementing tax-related processes and activities.
- Prepare workpapers and analysis.
- Monitor transactions for potential tax impacts.
- Research and implement new tax guidance.
- Assist with communicating tax impacts to finance leadership.
- Resolve technical tax matters.
- Work with external tax advisors.
- Perform activities related to issuing and maintaining compliance with taxable and tax-exempt debt.
- Assist with the preparation of fixed asset debt schedules, including final fixed asset list and weighted average useful life calculation for debt series, annual capitalized interest analysis and year end journal entries, budget maintenance, and other items as assigned.
- Other duties, as assigned
- Preparation of audit workpapers and footnote disclosures related to areas of responsibility.
- Initiate disbursements by wire through the banking portal, as needed.
- Complete complex surveys, special projects and special analyses, as assigned.
- Provide timely statistics on monthly activity for areas of responsibility.
- Assist with various department projects including implementation of significant new accounting guidance, ad hoc analytics and reporting, surveys, audit, and other tasks as identified.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to listen critically and interact with individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization.
- Advanced technology skills, including Excel, Word, automated accounting software, business intelligence cubes and related report writing tools is required.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to work independently to assess available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to other parties.
- High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and stay focused on assigned priorities, work independently to meet internal and external deadlines and produce a consistently high-quality product.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute within a team environment.
- Possess superior customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative, exercise judgment and adapt to change.

M-F, 8a-5p
Position Requirements:
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Minimum Required Experience: 5 years
Preferred Experience: Account reconciliation, journal entry preparation, financial analysis, internal audit, nonprofit accounting
Field: Accounting
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or currently pursuing CPA preferred
