Job Purpose

The Director of Overhead is responsible for the strategic implementation all field operations and emergency response activities, for the associated business plans to achieve organizational goals. They manage the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of electric field work within a designated region.

Additionally, in this role, the Director ensures proper focus on process and personal safety, while maintaining a safe and reliable network, and works collaboratively with other functional leaders to optimize operating efficiencies and ensures that an execution plan is aligned with financial, regulatory and legislative requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide leadership and direction and ensure successful performance for the assigned distribution overhead and meter services teams.
  • Ensure safe and reliable construction and maintenance of the distribution systems consistent with company goals, objectives, and policies, in full compliance with all government codes and regulations.
  • Build and maintain a working relationship with the local unions. Engage and strategize with HR Labor Partners on local contract language, grievances, and the settlement process for issues that may result in arbitration. Also provide consultation in these areas within the operations organization.
  • Lead Regional Emergency Restoration efforts
  • Facilitate and communicate Company's strategic goals and aspirations with local teams, Unions and supporting departments.
  • Accountable for DOA budget and resources for all programs and expenditures within regional field operations.
  • Strategize longer team goals and ensure process transparency at functional level, while holding local teams accountable for field execution.
  • Oversee and enforce accountability required for personal and process safety.
  • Embed ownership culture in the Electric Business, and behaviors that are customer-focused, decision driven and support a thriving business.
  • Responsible for internal/external stakeholder engagement, including managing relationships with regulators and municipalities to optimize the company's competitive posture and position.
  • Proven capabilities to lead, motivate and develop required departmental capabilities and future leaders.
  • Critical thinking, commerciality, ability to navigate complex, highly matrixed organizations.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to analyze business issues, provide strategic direction, motivate the team, make decisions and develop the capability of the organization to succeed.
  • Experience managing large operational budget.
  • Ability to communicate and work with people at all levels and across organizational boundaries, including ability to comprehend and explain highly complex information to a less technical audience.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred, preferably in an engineering discipline, with an advanced business degree preferred.
  • At least5 years of Overheard/Underground distribution related relevant experience or equivalent with broad exposure in electric and/or gas operations, energy distribution and metering systems or Engineering is required.
  • Must have 5+ years of experience leading and managing teams, demonstrating strong leadership skills in fostering collaboration, driving performance, and supporting team development.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of emergency and field operations activities.
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity of labor agreements is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying and sharing best practices from within and outside the company.
  • Knowledge of process management with success in implementing changes.
  • Commercial focus, deep understanding of business strategy and finance-related performance metrics.
  • Outstanding relationship management, negotiations/bargaining, communications and presentations skills.
  • Accomplished in developing and maintaining credible and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A valid driver's license with a safe driving record that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy is required.

Salary: $195,000 - $229,000
