Position Summary

With a focus on driving a positive CUSTOMER experience, this individual is responsible setting the strategic direction domestic and international distribution of STERIS consumable chemistries and other products. They will align with global stakeholders as to ensure distribution capabilities match the operational needs of STERIS and support the growing needs of our customer.The individual will have overall leadership for the Distribution Center in St Louis, Missouri, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective receiving, storage, and shipping of finished goods throughout the world. Ensure high levels of customer service by working with other warehouses, vendors, carriers, and STERIS' Manufacturing and Customer Service groups. Maintain appropriate inventory record keeping and data management systems as needed to accommodate Corporate, Regulatory, and Governmental requirements.

What You'll do as a Director of Distribution

  • Align with senior leader strategic objectives and determine optimal distribution execution models inclusive of automation, WMS solutions and other associated technologies.
  • Responsible for the receipt, management, and shipment of finished goods to customers, distributors, and satellite warehouses globally. Provides the overall coordination of activities and directs these activities for the Manager and Supervisors. Creates and/or authorizes all Standard Operating Procedures in the facility. Ensures training is completed and remains up to date on these procedures.
  • Drive inventory control and reconciliation processes in alignment with corporate policy and 3rd party audit.
  • Direct operational line responsibilities for the St. Louis Distribution Center's (DC) activities.
  • In line with ISO/FDA controls, provides, and supervises the required record-keeping and data management systems. Provides input for warehouse designs and logistics
  • Maintains a safe working environment by instructing employees on established safety practices and enforcing these practices. Prepares monthly operational reports and audits the operation against current procedures. Serves on the site's Central Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for the proper operation of equipment, including the training and instruction on equipment use and the requisitioning of needed equipment, material, and maintenance. Ensures all equipment is maintained in their proper working condition.
  • Completes Capital Appropriation Requests as required, supporting the location's operating requirements.
  • Service as the department's liaison with the Environmental, Health and Safety, and other internal and external agencies/groups. Supports and follows corporate security measures for the facility, products, and human resources.
  • Establishes, maintains, and promotes good relations with employees while also maintaining productivity, attendance, and general order required for the efficient operation of the Distribution Center in Indianapolis.
  • Ensure that the distribution facility is properly staffed and equipped in order to select and receive products at the facilities in a production and cost-efficient manner.
  • Responsible for departmental budgets, expenditures, and site management. Prepares monthly operating performance metrics, semi-annually the Management Review Board presentations, and other operational summary report outs.
  • In conjunction with the S&OP team, manages inventory levels and ensures appropriate levels of supply are shipped to each warehouse point, optimizing shipping costs, minimizing days on hand, and maximizing Customer service levels. Coordinates inventory cycle count activities.
  • Works with cross functional groups to ensure traffic activities between warehouse points and the customers are coordinated and optimally managed.
  • Provides leadership role on assigned corporate wide initiatives when necessary.
  • Summarize and monitor key performance measures applicable to S&OP execution. Develop action plans as necessary.


The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Operations/Supply Chain related or discipline
  • Minimum 7yearsexperience in warehousing, domestic transportation, shipping/receiving or other operations/supply chain function
  • Minimum 7years supervisory or management experience



Preferred:



  • Experienced in handling, storing, and shipping hazardous materials
  • FDA controlled facility experience
  • Minimum 2years Lean experience
  • Experience working in union environment



Other:



  • Project management experience
  • Must be able to communicate with various levels of the organization in a clear, efficient, and effective manner
