Ameresco is currently seeking a Global Head of Safety to lead and oversee the development and implementation of safety, health, and environmental compliance strategies across all energy efficiency and renewable energy construction projects within our multi-state US and Canada and Europe regions. This executive-level position will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained across the entire organization, with frequent travel across the region (approximately 70% of the time). The role will directly contribute to the long-term vision and operational strategy, focusing on fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Responsibilities:
Develop and lead the company's long-term safety strategy for energy efficiency and renewable energy construction projects across the globe. Lead a team of Regional Safety Managers and ensure consistent and disciplined management of Safety function. Oversee a team supporting all Federal projects across the company. Oversee the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of Site-Specific Safety Plans and Activity Hazard Analysis for all projects. Provide executive leadership in ensuring compliance with safety policies, OSHA standards, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Lead the development of a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental program tailored to the needs of the regional business operations, with a focus on sustainability and regulatory excellence. Partner with senior leadership to promote and enforce safety across all company operations and drive company-wide safety initiatives. Conduct high-level safety audits of major project sites and ensure all safety-related issues are proactively identified and addressed. Direct the investigation and root-cause analysis of all safety incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence. Engage with key stakeholders, including project managers, subcontractors, and clients, to ensure safety is prioritized and maintained throughout the lifecycle of the projects. Provide oversight on safety training, including compliance with OSHA requirements, ensuring employees receive proper safety education and the necessary personal protective equipment. Foster and maintain a safety culture across the entire organization, ensuring all employees and contractors are motivated and committed to safety excellence. Regularly report on safety performance, incidents, and initiatives to the executive leadership team, ensuring transparency and accountability. Spearhead the development and delivery of safety training programs at the executive and project levels. Manage safety certifications and ensure compliance with all relevant contractual and regulatory requirements. Oversee the safety audits of subcontractors and vendors, ensuring that safety standards are maintained throughout the supply chain. Provide strategic leadership to the regional safety teams, ensuring efficient management of resources, budgets, and personnel. Other executive-level duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. or higher degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 15+ years of experience in construction safety management, with a proven track record of success in an executive or senior management role. Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards and other safety regulations and the ability to interpret and apply them at a regional level. Ability to travel up to 70% of the time to various project sites within the region as necessary.

Proven ability to develop and implement safety programs and strategies across large, multi-site organizations. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide, and influence diverse teams. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, project teams, and external partners. Ability to manage a large-scale, multi-regional safety program and ensure alignment with company goals and objectives. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, and other project management and safety compliance tools. Proven experience in developing and maintaining successful safety cultures. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-level tasks. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write detailed reports, safety plans, and other documentation with proper grammar and clarity. Ability to listen, collaborate, and communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. A proactive and solutions-oriented approach to safety management and compliance.
