Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the providers, the Athletic trainer shall assist in the care and management of the musculoskeletal patient. Supervision shall be continuous but shall not necessarily require the physical presence of the supervising providers at the time and place where serves are performed.
  • Render initial evaluation; follow up care and other office services in accordance with training, experience and current protocols and competencies.
  • Perform routine services/procedures in the field of musculoskeletal care in accordance with current protocols and competencies including, but not limited to: administration of first aid in emergent situations, performance of history and physical examinations, preparation/assistance with aspiration and injections, application and removal of all types of splints, braces and casts, assist/perform wound care including closure and removal of wound closure materials, assist/perform with reduction/manipulation of fractures and dislocations, supervision/training of other athletic trainers, orthopedic technologists or other team members as deemed necessary.
  • Perform routine clinical duties to prepare the patients for exam/office visits such as, but not limited to: standardized rooming, taking of vital signs, documentation in the EMR of complete initial history (HPI/ROS), physical exam and management plans, assist in development of processes and treatment plans for patients, assist with patient education involving the care and plan of treatment of the orthopedic patient, review of routine health maintenance procedures, Meaningful Use requirements and Quality Metric reporting

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training
  • Completion of an accredited Athletic Training Curriculum
  • 2-3 years of prevention and care of athletic injuries
  • Knowledge and skill in effective organization and instruction of strength, conditioning and care of athletic injuries.
  • Certification as an Athletic trainer by National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA)
  • Athletic licensure in state of Iowa and/or Illinois.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
