About the Job

The Assistant Director of Admissions in the Office of Admissions provides professional support and expertise in the recruitment of international students. The Assistant Director of Admissions will ensure the effective execution of international recruitment and outreach efforts. This position involves significant independent judgement in the recruitment of undergraduate students and requires significant international travel. This position reports to the Director of International Recruitment, typically receives only general guidance, serves as an expert resource for others in the Office of Admissions, and is held accountable for achieving defined enrollment goals.

This is a 100%, 12-month, annually renewable appointment in the academic administrative personnel series. This position may be either a campus-based position where most work is conducted on campus when not traveling, or it may be a permanently remotely based position, depending on the needs of the University. Some evening and weekend work is required, particularly when engaged in recruitment activities and other travel. Application priority deadline of April 14, 2025.

Primary Responsibilities
International Recruitment (45%):

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the international student recruitment plan in coordination with the Director of International Recruitment.
  • Implement recruitment plans for international undergraduate students, including international travel and representation of the University globally.
  • Evaluate and analyze return on investment of recruitment activities.
  • Evaluate market and enrollment data to inform recruitment strategies.
  • Serve as territory manager for defined international regions.
  • Represent the Office of Admissions at on- and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to prospective students, their families, school officials, and other campus constituents.
  • Provide admission counseling and information to students, families, school officials, and other campus constituents.
  • Plan, host, and evaluate effectiveness of programs and events.
  • Ensure quality and effectiveness of recruitment efforts and program delivery through effective implementation and outcomes monitoring.
  • Enhance recruitment activities through the implementation of innovative programs and initiatives.
  • Represent the University at national and international conferences.

Travel, Country Presence, and Travel Planning/Training (25%):

  • Determine and evaluate travel needs relevant to international goals.
  • Travel extensively and prioritize the travel to maximize the University's in-person presence.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third-party partners to strategically enhance recruitment success.
  • Utilize recent developments and best practices to determine the best use of virtual programming and outreach to enhance overall efforts.

Application Review (15%):

  • Evaluate applicant credentials for the purposes of admission counseling and admission decision making.
  • Work with the Holistic Review unit to coordinate scholarship review to enroll an academically qualified and diverse class of first year and transfer students.

Project Management & Execution (15%):

  • Manage and participate in special projects.
  • Serve as a committee leader or member, as needed.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience, or master's degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Must maintain a valid passport with the ability to travel internationally for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekend, as needed.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently evaluate complex data and operational scenarios.
  • Ability and political acumen to balance competing demands, priorities, and needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to support successful and positive engagement with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines, make decisions according to policies and procedures, and exercise judgment in recommending procedural changes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with Technolutions Slate.
About the Department

The mission of the Office of Admissions is to take leadership in recruiting and enrolling undergraduate students who will benefit from and contribute to the University of Minnesota scholarly community. The Office of Admissions coordinates undergraduate student enrollment efforts and collaborates campus-wide with colleges, departments, and the units within the Office of Enrollment Management to meet the University's enrollment goals. The Office of Admissions serves prospective undergraduate students, and incoming undergraduate students.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
