The research conducted by the Stress, Health, and Development Lab examines how stressful experiences influence physical health and disease risk across the lifespan. Current directions of the lab include understanding the pathways through which early experiences of stress contribute to disease risk in adulthood, with a particular focus on the role of the sleep and the immune system. The Lab Manager is responsible for various tasks that critically ensure the daily functioning of the lab and that facilitate the implementation of the lab's research, including but not limited to:
  • Manage recruitment.
  • Oversee dry and wet lab data collection.
  • Clean, prepare, and analyze data collection to assist in preparing grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Oversee dry and wet lab administrative tasks, training and supervising volunteer research assistants in wet and dry lab activities.


Work Interactions

The Lab Manager will be closely supervised by the principal investigator (PI) and will work closely with the PI's collaborators, graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, research participants from the Georgetown University community and greater DC area, Psychology Department staff and faculty, and conference attendees in person as well as virtually. The Lab Manager reports to Dr. Jessica Chiang, Assistant Professor and PI of the lab, and volunteer/student research assistants report to the lab manager.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Biology, Chemistry or other related field
  • 1-2 years research experience in a psychology lab setting
  • Previous experience collecting and/or managing data collection
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented
  • Extremely organized
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends depending on availability of participants
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage and support a team


Preferred Requirements and Qualifications
  • Previous experience with IRB protocols and budget oversight
  • Previous experience in data preparation, management, and analysis
  • Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., STATA, R)
  • Strong writing skills

    Pay Range:

    The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
    $19.20 - $28.70

    Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
