JOB SUMMARY

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe operation of a Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) to assist with material handling, shipping, receiving and other activities. The list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may expand to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with company Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Loads and unloads materials (4x16 pallets) onto or from trucks by forklift as required.
  • Loading and verification of outgoing shipments for accuracy and quality/quantity of part numbers.
  • Verify products picked match the shipping order.
  • Ensure items received are delivered and put away daily.
  • Ensure material storage areas and receiving area are kept clean from debris and trash.
  • Distribute requested items to production line in an accurate and timely fashion as needed.
  • Improve and maintain plant and outside yard 5S/Safety.
  • Manually handle product combining and sorting material from pallet to pallet.
  • Assist with yearly Physical Inventory.
  • Other projects as requested.
  • Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Sort, stage & load pallets and related material in a safe manner following Westlake Forklift Safe Operation guidelines and policies.
  • Assist in inventory management of pallets to ensure production operations continue without interruption.
  • Required to operate a sit-down forklift and/or electric pallet jack in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Able to effectively work within a diverse team environment and be productive while unsupervised.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as shipping/receiving information.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Some minor pallet repairs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and training or certification in relevant skill or trade.
  • 1 - 2 years' experience in a relevant field.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable * Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or out.
  • Prolong standing or in stationary position.
  • Complete repetitive movements.
  • Bend and/or twist.
  • Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection).
  • Must be able to work split shift (to train off shifts on safety concerns and changes).
  • Clarity of hearing and speech.
  • Must be able to climb, balance or smell.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US markets. The base pay range for this position is $21.40 to $22.47. This range is based on relevant market data in our lowest and highest geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, experience and skillset. Westlake is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, sign on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package (also to include a full range of medical and other benefits).
