Your Role at Cabot
Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Safety, Health, Environmental Specialist/Engineer to join the team. They will have facilitate the manufacturing plant's pursuit of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) excellence. Ensures the monitoring and prevention of chemical and physical hazards within the plant and the surrounding community. Aids in the creation and implementation of cost-effective programs and procedures that enhance SH&E awareness, aiming to eliminate undesired incidents at the site. Supports the Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager in ensuring local compliance with all relevant plant, company, and governmental policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation, while maintaining alignment with Cabot's Culture and Values. Collaborates with regional, corporate, and regulatory agencies to identify and manage SH&E concerns effectively. The Safety, Health, Environmental Specialist/Engineer will work on-site at the Tuscola, IL plant. The candidate must have strong self-motivation, and a desire to work in an environment of continuous improvement. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative mindset are key for this role, which will interact with all organizational levels and functions.

How You Will Make an Impact
In this role, you are the responsible person to facilitate the manufacturing plant's pursuit of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) excellence. This role requires a SH&E mindset, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and recordkeeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:

- Supports the development and implementation of training programs and activities to ensure facility SH&E compliance.
- Monitors proposed and existing SH&E regulations and legislation to assess their impact on operations. Implements programs to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Participates in the implementation of Long-Range Plans (LRPs), Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs), global standards, budgets, and other corporate initiatives.
- Supports the implementation of site SH&E goals and objectives in alignment with global and regional targets.
- Collects, analyzes, evaluates, and distributes SH&E management information. Creates and runs reports for management distribution, monitoring safety and health performance. Provides recommendations for improvements to SH&E programs.
- Supports plant permitting efforts to meet regulatory requirements, including chemical and physical hazards, as well as air, land, waste, and water pollution levels.
- Collects and compiles environmental data for air, drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, and waste streams applicable to the site. Submits required regulatory reports and fees (e.g., air, NPDES, EPCRA, waste) to local, state, and federal agencies.
- Communicates with appropriate governmental agencies as needed.
- Oversees requirements for non-hazardous, universal wastes, and hazardous waste activities, including proper storage, labeling, manifesting, and container inspections.
- Monitors and prevents chemical, physical, and biological hazards and diseases by conducting air, soil, or other environmental tests.
- Participates in the preparation and administration of site SH&E training. Promotes and trains employees in the use of safety equipment and safe machinery operation. May train forklift operators for licensing.
- Supports injury case management as needed.
- Investigates incidents, prepares incident reports, and processes hazard reviews to analyze site incidents. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazard potential.
- Implements site medical surveillance programs for respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and industrial hygiene monitoring. Conducts noise level surveys and measures air quality using precision instruments.
- Develops and monitors emergency action plans. Recommends changes to policies and procedures to prevent incidents and illness. Participates in hazard assessments to determine personal protective equipment requirements and energy control procedures.
- Supports the site's commitment to Process Safety Management (PSM) to ensure alignment with regional and corporate PSM goals and expectations, including the Risk Management Plan (RMP) as applicable.
- Supports efforts to implement and maintain Responsible Care and ISO Management Systems in line with RC14001 and ISO9001 technical specifications.
What You Will Bring to Cabot
- Demonstrated technical competence in the SH&E field, including local and national regulations, technical practices in monitoring and measuring environmental emissions (air, drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, and waste streams), and compliance.
- Demonstrated technical competence in regulatory interpretation
- Experience in SH&E technical aspects.
- Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., team and culture building).
- Negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Safety or Environmental Engineering or related fields, with 3+ years of relevant specialization.

- Pay and Benefits - The salary range for this role is from 86,500 to 118,975. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
