The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are seeking a Development Program Manager to join our Distributed Energy Resource (DER) team in Tampa, FL. In this role, you will develop and manage large, complex regional projects while ensuring continuity, quality, risk mitigation, and profitability through all project cycles. You will work closely with business development efforts, field operations, and other business units to obtain work that aligns with McKinstry's capabilities and business plans. Additional responsibilities include:

Project Management

  • Develop high-quality projects through permitting and successfully transition to the construction team.
  • Maintain single-point accountability for project development through completion.
  • Collaborate with clients and development staff to create technical, high-value solutions.
  • Successfully manage committed project objectives, including scope, schedule, budget, and customer expectations.
  • Negotiate vendor and service contracts to minimize risks and meet margin goals.
  • Resolve customer support and billing issues during project development.
  • Lead project financial reviews and manage project cash flow.
  • Utilize best-in-class engineering and project management tools and techniques.
  • Ensure constructability and QA/QC requirements are addressed during development.
  • Provide seamless transition to the construction team and continue to support as needed.

Communication

  • Manage and lead project teams toward common goals.
  • Provide monthly reports on project health to leadership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with customers during project development.
  • Maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders, providing timely updates on project changes.
  • Deliver presentations to various audiences, acting as a subject matter expert.
  • Inform the Construction Project Manager of all relevant development activities.

Sales & Business Development Support

  • Develop and maintain client relationships at all levels.
  • Partner with Business Developers to strategize opportunities for additional work.
  • Provide preliminary assessments, technical solutions, fee proposals, presentations, studies, schedules, and other development materials.
  • Negotiate project deliverables and financial expectations with executives.
  • Attend client meetings, interviews, and events.

Operations and People Management

  • Manage resource planning and staffing utilization.
  • Develop and mentor staff to achieve project goals.
  • Provide performance feedback and create development plans.
  • Conduct post-project analyses to capture lessons learned.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive team culture.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of industry experience with 7+ years in project management.
  • Proven experience in leading people with a high standard of excellence.
  • Strong business acumen and proficiency in forecasting and cost management.
  • Excellent negotiation, leadership, and communication skills.

The pay range for this position is $102,780- $154,260 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
