Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Football Communications and Brand Strategy, this position will serve as a key content creator, utilizing videography and other content creation skills and strategies to tell the best stories of Carolina Football with the goals of reach, revenue and recruiting. Video and other content will be created for use on Football and other department social media channels, websites, and for recruiting, marketing and promotions. The person in this position will be part of the Football Communications and Brand Strategy team, working closely with that unit, the coaching staff and other external units (including Athletic Communications, Creative Services, Go Heels Productions, Marketing, and Tar Heel Sports Properties) to positively promote Carolina Football, the Department of Athletics and the University. Must be able to meet tight deadlines and communicate effectively. Must have strong creative, organizational, design and multimedia skills. Additional content creation skills in social media, photography and/or graphic design preferred. This is a fast-paced and strategic job where accuracy and the ability to tell the stories of Carolina Football authentically is a must.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
An inventive, imaginative, original content creator who can distill stories and bring them to life through video, audio and still photography.
Must exercise independent judgement and discretion about appropriate content for the program and be able to independently execute or manage a team to execute this vision. Must be able to manage production assistants to create appropriate video content that meets departmental goals.
Requires a professional level knowledge of non-linear editing programs such as Adobe Premiere. Knowledge of other graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe AfterEffects and other applicable Adobe Creative Suite platforms are required.
Must have intimate knowledge of professional video production. This includes expert knowledge of high-end digital video and still photo acquisition ( DSLR, 4K, high frame rate, etc). Expert knowledge of planning and execution of video and photo shoots (lighting, framing, audio acquisition). Expert video and still photo editor. Knowledge of encoding and social media distribution. Creativity is crucial for the building of all projects. Products need to be motivating, invigorating and aspirational for viewers. The ability to create elements that are original and special is essential. Management of student assistants may be required.
Attention to detail. Ability to communicate clear, accurate information. Ability to meet time sensitive deadlines. Ability to work many long hours, especially from training camp in early August through National Signing Day in February.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated experience that supports ability to work in a fast paced, high volume athletic environment.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Attention to detail essential. Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends and needed. Ability to meet the demands of long hours during critical program periods.
